Alcohol consumed by a mother pa__ses easily into her b___st milk at concentrations similar to those found in her bloodstream. A nursing infant is actually exposed to only a fraction of the alcohol the mother ingests, but infants detoxify alcohol in their first weeks of life at only half the rate of adults. Check out: http://www.cfpc.ca/cfp/2002/Jan/vol48-jan-clinical-1.asp for a table on when it is safe to b___stfeed after how many drinks (based upon how much you weigh). One dash is supposed to be after vol48, after jan and after clinical. Hope this helps!

also from this site and many others i've encountered, it states that pumping and dumping will NOT help. i always found it odd when women asked if "dumping" would help matters...this was copied...Because alcohol elimination follows zero-order kinetics, drinking water, resting, or “pumping and dumping” b___st milk will not accelerate elimination.12 Unlike urine, which stores substances in the bladder, alcohol is not trapped in b___st milk, but is constantly removed as it diffuses back into the bloodstream.2

well one of the lactation specialists in my area told me 1 or 2 drinks is fine...and a gla__s of wine here and there can actually be beneficial.

I have one gla__s of wine once in a while. I have read and been told by the lactation consultant at the hospital that it is ok in moderation. When I drink, I try to do it right after I nurse and with food.

I recently indulged in a gla__s of wine; I drank 1 gla__s immediately after my daughter went to bed for the night; she went to bed at 8, I had a gla__s of wine at 8:30 and went to bed; she woke up at 5 a.m. and nursed - I saw no apparent effect on her.
