i keep hearing to keep a baby on a feeding schedule (right now I do it on demand... its hard!), the truth is i dont know how to do this. My son is 2 1/2 months, he eats about 3 oz every 2 hrs. can someone provide some advice?

all i can really tell you is, if your baby is hungry, feed him/her. They go through so many growth spurts at this age that any time they are hungry, they probably really need the nutrients. Eventually your baby will sort of find a schedule, and once you introduce solid foods, you can start a schedule for when you feed the meals, and eventually baby will wean from milk onto the scheduled meals/snacks you are preparing..

also.. if it helps, write down what time and how long each feeding is, after a while you will start to notice a pattern.

My daughter b___stfeeds and there is no such thing as a schedule. She's 12 weeks today.

Schedules, especially feeding, are not good for babies under 6 months of age. Babies eat when they are hungry, no more, no less. Their bodies know what is best for them, and they do not posess the ability to manipulate or become spoiled at such a young age. The thing about having a new baby is that you can't have things the way you're used to having them :) That includes having control.

I agree with all the other ladies...under 6 months, babies don't need a schedule...their bodies know best and I prefer the demand feeding.

Yeah feeding schedules are not going to happen that early... my daughter is 5 mos and eats whenever she wants... but here is something that i have been concerned about... she used to (like most babies do..) pull away or 'smile' to get the nipple out of her mouth... now all she does is fidget and keep eating, but once she starts wiggling and i take the bottle out she does not fuss... any insite on why she is not releasing the bottle herself???

Some babies love the sucking motion. Take the bottle out and give her a pacifier if you think she should be done eating.

I wouldn't worry about that right now. You have too much other stuff to worry about. I thought I needed a schedule too but decided against it because my little guy wouldn't allow it. Feed him when he's hungry. Good luck.

All babies are different. My son was on a feeding schedule the day he was born. Its a lot easier because you know when you can get out of the house for awhile and not have to worry about feedings. If your son is fussy an hour after feeding, maybe give him 3 1/2 oz. Maybe he is still hungry because he didn't have enough the first time. Make sure to feed him every couple of hours and not every hour. Babies stomachs are very small so they will need to eat a lot. Also, if this is still hard, don't listen to people telling you how to parent your baby, your the mom and you know whats best, I hope this works for you.

There is no need to put a 2 1/2 month old on a schedule, they put you on a schedule. When your baby is older, (6 plus months) the schedule just falls into place. You won't be feeding every 2 hours. My son outgrew it. hang in there.

I also agree with all the ladies. Don't even think about scheduales at this point. Feed your baby when he's hungry. He might even fall into some type of scheduale on his own someday but either way-you won't have to do this for long. They grow up quickly. :)

I do the same thing. But, I find that if I feed him about 4-5 oz. he wants to eat about every 3-4 hours. Now I think I'm feeding him too much! He sucks it dry though, so he really IS hungry! He is a month old today and weighs 10lbs. 10oz. But, he's fully proportioned...he's just a big boy. He doesn't have any fat rolls or anything.
