Alright, I am 33 weeks, and freaking out about labor, as most do. The thing is, I'm vain and really freaking out about pelvic floor damage. How many of you are dealing with this? I'm young (24) and I just feel like my husband and I have so much time together still that I don't want to have a totally stretched out va___a at 24!! It's a tacky question, I'm sorry, but I have to know - did you go back to normal? Honestly?!

Well, Dana, I hope my answer is not tmi. Right now, it is too soon to tell for me. I had my baby 11/7 (over five weeks ago) and sustained a fourth degree tear. (Basically, two openings became one. I know- tmi.) They sewed me up well, though, and I haven't had any issues with incontinence (which I was told I might.) I am not allowed to have s_x for another 2+ weeks, so I haven't even tried to go there yet. I sort of wish they gave me an episiotomy just because the cut could have been made off to the side and not towards my rectum. I have had issues with posterior v____al fissures due to s_x in the past and I never mentioned it to the OB until after the delivery. She seemed like she would have liked to have known that, so if you ever had that probem, let them know in advance. Also, I was very sore (especially sit_tng) for about 2-3 weeks, but Motrin and Tylenol were able to ease the pain. Lastly, I am 31. I have a feeling that it will go easier for you because you are younger. I have a stereotype that women in their 20's do better with labor and delivery. I wish you lots of luck and a smooth delivery. Oh- and don't procrastinate about getting ready for the baby! I did and my son came three weeks early. I am still trying to get the finishing touches on his nursery done! :)

How many fat mothers do you see. Yes you go back to normal . It takes 9 months to put on the weight it takes 9 months to take it off. Just kidding it doesn't take 9 months it took me 6and a half with b___stfeeding my son ,no work out either. Even your v____a and cervix go back to normal around the 6 week part even if you have a natural birth or c-cestion. I was not trying to make women seen fat sorry if I offended some people

Child please!!!! lol I am 21 years old...My baby is now 7 months old. She was 8lbs 2oz at birth and I had a 2nd degree tear...That healed completely after about 2 months and everything got back to normal....I can't even see where the st_tches were...neither can DH. DH says things feel the same down there so I wouldn't worry about pelvic floor damage and being stretched out. The female body is SO resilient it boggles my mind. Right after I had my baby, I thought things would never get back to normal...but I looked completely normal again after 4 months. You'll see your body returning to normal starting in the 1st week after labor and you'll be back to normal before you know it. Christy is right when she said a lot of it has to do with age...I want to have my second child at 24 or 25...but no where after 25.

Anyone ever hear of KEGEL Excercises? It works wonders on tightening you right back up. Although many women do them wrong. Sometimes DRs. say to tighten and release tighten release, you need to tighten, hold as long as you can and then release. Do this when every you can, in the car, while nursing, anytime and I guarentee with in a month or so you'll notice a difference.

Oh, yeah- I do the Kegels whenever I think of it! I couldn't even hold it for more than a second and do more than 3 or 5 the day after delivery, but now it is much better. :)

to all of you that had a tear....did you feel it...how bad was the pain...LOL. i know its stupid asking this when iam pregnant for the third time, but with my daughter, i wasnt aware of "being able to tear" and i had her naturally, and not tears, with my son it was c-section so i didnt worry, but with this one iam totally going for vbac...so the "tearing" part scares me alot !

Dana, I was freaked out about the same thing! Also, you and I are the same age! My husband and I have always had a great s_x life, so I was worried about that- plus I read this book that said I wouldn't have control of my bowels for six weeks after labor! Gross! But labor came and went, and now almost 5 months later I haven't had any problems. Don't worry too much over this, and do you Kegels- you'll be back to normal in no time!

I was afraid of this too, but trust me when I say everything does go back to normal, and it took me 3 weeks to lose all my pregnancy weight. I lost almost 20 lbs as soon as my daughter was born, she was a big baby and I had a lot of water. But don't worry, you will be as good as new in no time.

I had a v____al birth with no medications...I did not feel myself tear...After they st_tched me up, I was sore for a good 2 or 3 weeks. I completely healed down there by the time my 6 week postpartum check-up came...I am going to be honest with you...most women will lose most of their weight the first 2 weeks after birth. I lost all 22lbs of my pregnancy gain within 2 weeks of my birth, but did not get the elasticity back in my skin until 4 months! I was more concerned with the skin elasticity...not the weight...You have to be honest and realistic with your expectations. My stomach was like 4 shades darker after I gave birth and that took 5 months to fade away. S_x life is probably better now, because we make time for it. It keeps the marriage bond tight too.

katrina- i had a tear on one side and i don't remember feeling it either. i had like one shot of staidall several hours before delivery so by the time i gave birth it was completely worn off. when the doctor said he had to give me a few st_tches i was surprised. i barely noticed him putting them in too, even though i had no pain medication. they were pretty much fallen out by 5 weeks.

i had my baby 6 weeks ago had a second degree tear, felt normal down there after 2-3 weeks st_tches didnt really hurt, nipples did more from feeding! i have been really lazy with pelvic floors and i feel looser down there but when you have just had a baby the tightness of your v____a is the least of your worries
