haha! I am so used to writing my name then tabbing! When I had my first baby the internals hurt a little bit. 2nd and 3rd wasn't too bad.

I was tolerant of the exams until my contractions got stronger and they tried inserting internal monitors. After that I bawled, it really hurt.

I still have nightmares i think about the internals, they are far worse than any of it, even the pushing and contractions

I thought the first cervical check was the worst part of my labor. I had not had the epidural yet and had not had it done at the ob's office either. I cannot even describe the noise that came out of me. It felt like he had his whole friggin' forearm up there! I can't say that it felt much better when they placed the internal monitors either. Luckily, the pain is short lived, so that makes it kind of okay.

i don't remember them checking hurting at all either. the discomfort/pain must have been totally eclipsed by the pain of the contractions

It didn't hurt for me, just uncomfortable. If you get an epidural, you won't feel it at all.

Bonnie - it's not that bad. You feel a little pressure, but when I had mine done, she did it really fast, and I barely felt anything. Mind you, I was already 6 cm dilated when I got to the hospital, so that might have something to do with it? You'll do just fine!

My problem was she'd check me WHILE I was having a contraction!!!!!! I ended up having an emergency CS after 11 hours of labor cus she wasn't dropping and was sitting transverse and showing fetal distress. Everything went fine. I asked for drugs too!!!! I noticed that after they broke my water the contractions got really painful. Up till then they were't that bad. I was dilated to a five when I got to the hospital and they were 3 minutes apart and they were tolerable if I stood and bent over!

It doesn't always hurt. When I had my first baby, they were trying to induce, and I wasn't dialating at all, so they tried to break my water by hand...that hurt so bad I was screaming and scooting off the top of the bed. When I had my second baby, it was a planned c-section, but the doctor still checked my cervix the last few weeks. It didn't hurt at all...he said he couldn't feel it, it was too high, but he didn't try jamming a whole hand in there just to reach it.

It didn't hurt me. There was definately pressure, but not pain. It was just uncomfortable. To check and see how dilated you are, they put as much of their fist in you as possible and do the measurements based off of how many fingers get in. Sounds nasty, but I really didn't think that it was that bad. You have to try to relax when they do it though, if you're all tense it will start to hurt. If you relax, you will only fell the pressure of their fingers. Good luck..........relax and it won't be that bad!

I am so happy I' m not the only one.I went to be induced so they started me with cervidil(?) to help me efface/dialate.Every time they checked it hurt like hell.Especially b/c I would not efface/dialate.After doing this for 35 hours!!!! and the epidural going wrong,me not effacing/dialating,I was 3 cm and 30 % effaced after 35 hours, baby and me went in distress and I ended up with a c-section.BUT,.......I would do it all over again. And once you see your baby, you forget all about it.

Shelly, that sounds just like when I had my first baby. I had my second by c-section too and it was such a relief not having to go through days of induction and all the hands being jammed up there...I had my first at a teaching hospital and they would come in groups to check me...yuck

JBear I gave birth at a teaching hospital as well. By the 15th or 16th hour nobody wanted to teach in my room. I told them that if another gang walked in here that I was going to keep one as a punching bag. So, that ended cla__s.

Thats awful JBear,I was already freaking out with 3 doctors and 4-5 nurses there.A few more and we could have had a party.LOL It was so embarrasing though,Jesse and me went in distress b/c of the epidural goig up instead of down,so anyways,I had to lay on my sides and at certain moment on my hand and knees,so baically i was "mooning' everybody. Now that I think of it,I am so happy I don't have to face those people again.

TC...that was a good idea...I was too busy being mad at my husband. He plugged up the toilet and told them it was me (I was on bedrest with a catheter), he kept going to get food and coming back and burping at me (I was not allowed to eat)...I was so hungry I could tell where he'd eaten by his burps. He also snored so lound I couldn't sleep, and every time I b___hed at him for it he complained that I got a bed and he didn't.
