I had a 4th degree tear with my first child 9 months ago. I am pregnant again and due in 5 months. My Dr. wants me to thinking strongly about having a c-section with this baby because I may loose all bowel and bladder control if I have a repeat tear. Anyone have any advise or have experienced this? I really don't want a c-section but I don't want to loose body control either. HELP!

I had a 4th degree tear with my first baby 2 years ago and am due any day with my second. My doctor never discussed a c-section with me. In fact, he is optimistic that I won't have such a bad tear this time because second births usually go a little better. I am planning a v____al birth and will let you know how it goes for me.

Well, I had my baby boy about two weeks ago. I did not have a repeat tear. My body was more ready this time and the episiotomy was all I needed - no tearing beyond that. I haven't had any problems with bladder or bowel control either. That is my experience, but I realize that we are all different. Your doctor may have a reason to think what he does for your case because he can see something we can't. Talk it through with him. I hope things go well for you as they did for me. Good luck!
