Difference Between Pre Term And Real Labor

Can somebody explain to me the difference between pre-term labor or real labor? Is pre-term labor just earlier than 37 weeks and is that all? Or is it having more than 4 contractions in an hour? I am terribly confused. Any additional info would be helpful.

well, with my son, when i would get pains, i would do something different then what i was doing when they hit, have shower, lay down, something, if they go away false labor, but if they start coming more frequant and strong i would say that's real labour, preterm is when the baby is still to young to come into the world. I think that 37 weeks is fine. may also be braxton hicks, i had those for two weeks before my son was born, they were so bad iw as going to the hospital everyother day, but thats all it was. hopw i helped and wasnt too confusing, best of luck

i am 35 weeks and the day before christmas i was in terrible pain and was ver fatige. I thought it was just from a cold i was trying to get rid of. I am stubborn and didnt want to go to the hospital i was having contractions that seemed different then the braxton hicks, but there was no regularety to it it was just kind of whenever. Finally i was sitting in Triage of my hospital the hooked me and the baby up to the monitor and saw i was having regular contractions. They were able to stop the contractions by putting me on an iv, the cause of what was pre-term labor was the cold i had caused me to get overly dehydrated which cause the uterus to contact. evrything is good know and i cant wait to get him out of me. any suggestions to speed things up. (besides dehydrating myself !!! lol)

I looked like a teenager again after a long night drinking on the weekend, hanging out my truck window throwing up everything that they had just gave me. (people in vehicles next to us thought it looked the same way Im sure.I was very embarrased!!

When contractions occur that cause changes in the cervix before 37 weeks, it is considered preterm labor. However, most doctors won't try to stop it after 36 weeks, they will let the labor continue since the baby will most likely be healthy. Some people have preterm contractions, but it is not considered preterm labor unless the cervix is changing with the contractions.
