I've heard that if you have a tatoo on your back in the area of the epidural, you may not be able to get one. is this true? and where is the general area that an epidural is administered?

I recently asked the same question of my aunt who was a nurse in the navy. She says that if you can draw a line from the top of your left hip to your right that is the general place for an epideral. It may be placed up to three inches above that line and two inches below it. Hope this helps.

thats not true, I asked my doctor.You can have an epidural when you have a tattoo. I have one on my lower back and I got the epidural.

Ive had 3 epidurals and all three were placed just under half way up my back.
