What Do Labor Pains And Contractions Actually Feel Like

CONTRACTIONS HURT!!! They literally make you scream. You can hardly walk, breathe, or open your eyes. I cant really describe the feeling, but its the most pain i have EVER endured! When baby begins to come out, you feel like you have to take a HUGE DUMP!! (sorry, but its true!) You just feel like you are going to poop everywhere. That is due to baby pushing down. When his head comes out, you may feel burning in your v____al area, or it may feel like you have just been ripped in 2. You will do fine, just get the epidural <3 =)

I had my first baby (a beautiful son) last November. I had back labor the entire time. Contractions to me felt like a dull ache in my lower back that wrapped around to my lower front stomach and tightened, increasing in intensity as time goes on. When the baby came out I felt burning but it definitely wasn't the worst part for me. I even tore and had to have a few st_tches but luckily didn't feel them since they froze me well. I only used a little bit of phentanyl in my IV and gas and air throughout labor and delivery. I could still feel the pain but I didn't care really. I didn't have the epi, it wasn't offered where I gave birth. Gas and air made time fly too and I could still remember everything. This is what I will use next time around.

Ok my question is, i see a lot of women saying 'the worst menstrual cramps x 1000" etc...my question is how bad are your menstrual cramps normally? Mine are so bad I get sweat, get nauseous and walk hunched over for at least one day. I feel them in my back, my thighs and wrapped around my stomach up as high as my ribcage. I miss work because of it and often times that is before the bleeding has even started. I'm a__suming that when I am in labor, it cant be much worse than what im used to every single month already but that time there will be a bonus at the end. So really, do you already have horrendously cripplingly bad menstrual cramps every month and its 1000 times worse than THAT or do you have general 'advil can take care of this' menstrual cramping that becomes horrendous during labor?

my menstrual cramps are so bad that i use those sticky heating pads, 2 on my back and one on my abdomen along with narcotic pain killers only to be able to sit up straight or lie down flat even...sorry to be so graphic :( but i really need to know

I know that with my first child I had really bad back pain. I know that I didn't get any pain in the front abdomen it was just in the back. I didn't want to have drugs because it can slow down the labor process so I opt for the water in my back. it is just neddles that they put water into your back, the needles do not stay in there like a epideral. I know that it worked really good and i liked it and I would recomend it to any one.

I have had 2 children and I'm also on my third. I have always said labor feels like menstrual cramps. It starts off like irritating cramps and just continues to get stronger and stronger. When pushing your baby out (if you're drug free) it is a sense of relief more than a feeling. The need to push will get very strong as you get closer to 10 cm dilated and it will begin to have a burning sensation and then by the time you are "allowed" to really push it is such a relief that the time spent pushing goes by very quickly. I did not use any medication during either of my labor/deliveries (not even tylenol) so I felt everything. I had very quick labor/deliveries though so if you need some pain meds don't feel badly about accepting them:)

hi i need some help also, i'm reading all these signs on labour...but i can't tell still, i've had scares before and got sent home. i feel frequent constipated every time i go to the bathroom but can only make a small or no BM. sorry for tmi. also a odd sharp crampy pain in my lower groin, like i have or am about to get my period. sometimes the sharp pain in my...region. i'm also VERY dehydrated and water doesn't seem to do a thing. but my baby still makes the odd squirm..i heard they stay still in labour? HELP!

Im on my 4th baby (35 weeks). Labor pain start off feeling like stretching and pulling in your lower back to the point you feel like you cant sit up straight. Then it turns to into a tightening feeling that wraps about your lower abdomen. As they get stronger if feels like the baby is trying to ball up in your lower stomach but there is not enough room. At the same time you feel these "lightning" strikes of pain inside your tummy that go down to your cervix. They may start off sporadically and then get regular and stronger. So during labor, you're feeling moderate to severe back pain and these "lightning" strikes inside all at the same time. The strikes I am describing actually feel like your cervix is being widened for the baby to pa__s through. I had the epidural in two of my deliveries. The first time it never set in and I still claim a natural labor on that one. The second time, the epidural worked and I was able to enjoy my labor with very little pressure and feeling (I was so numb I didnt feel the baby coming out nor could I get up for about an hour after delivery because I couldnt feel my legs). The downside was I couldnt feel how hard I was pushing and the Dr. had to tell me to keep bearing down. Also I have migranes since having the epidural. Consider the risk and weigh your options when asking for the epidural. It gives relief in minutes, but there are effects to its use and injection in the back. As far as the labor pains, after going through it for hours it gets more annoying than painful. Somehow we find a way to deal with the pain and get through it. You just need something to focus on and remember to breathe. If you hold your breath it cuts off oxygen to the baby. Point out the areas of your body, like your lower back and your sides, to your support person so they know where to ma__sage you at the most during labor. You may be very cranky during labor because it is such a tedious process, so let them know in advance how they can help you. Hope this helps.

Usually the first sign of starting your contractions/ labour is wanting to go for a poo! A sudden urge that you need to push for a number two. (This is actually the baby saying "think im ready") Soon afterwards period pain feelings begin and instead of the pain being a dull ache like time of the month - its a shooting pain, shooting down the bottom V of your stomach. Its not the most pleasurable of experiences, but not as bad as some make out - saying that all experiences are different.

I'm 39 weeks pregnant and I've had a few contractions but it is hard to explain. This is the best explanation I have found while searching for an answer... What Do True Labor Contractions Feel Like? The way a true labor contraction feels is different for each woman and may feel different from one pregnancy to the next. Labor contractions cause discomfort or a dull ache in your back and/or lower abdomen, along with pressure in the pelvis. Some women may also feel pain in their sides and thighs. Some women describe contractions as strong menstrual cramps, while others describe them as strong waves that feel like diarrhea cramps.

Yes do it just in case! Your in control, make sure your doing everything you can for your self and your baby to have a safe pregnancy!
