I was not dialated at all when my water broke (and after 12 hours of labour, I was still only 1cm....). My neighbour was 3 cms for 2 weeks, then was induced (she was 8 days overdue). I guess you never can tell!!

It's amazing how everyone has a different story. I'm 37 weeks and have been 1 cm dilated for a week now. I have had strong contractions at least every 20 minutes since I was 5 months pregnant, so my pregnancy has been considered a pre-term risk. On top of that the baby has been unusually low for months causing me to have the truly unbearable pelvic disfuntion. It's odd because my first pregnancy was perfect, not even Braxton Hicks contractions. Now I'm just waiting. I have strong contractions from anywhere from 30 minutes apart to 2 minutes apart. Yesterday they were three minutes apart for two hours and then stopped. Very frustrating!! It's very confusing because these contractions are much more uncomfortable than the first 10 hours of labor with my first born. I guess it's true when they say that every pregnancy and labor is unique. I'm just looking forward to holding my little one in my arms.

They must be. :) I ended up having my little boy ont he 23rd. My water broke and I was STILL at 1 cm, lol. They ended up inducing me with pit to make me contract and he never did drop. After 2.5 hours of pushing I had him by c-section. But it was a wonderful experience believe it or not, lol. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

It's over a week since my last post and I'm still only 1 cm dilated. I don't sleep because of the contractions. I can't believe I'm having such painful contractions that are definately not BH's but I'm not making any progress. And does any one know what that sharp stabbing pain is like a really big knife trying to make it's way out? That's almost worse than the contractions. Any tips would be helpful.

Stephanie, I'd ask my doctor to see if he can strip your mucous plug if I were you. That's what mine did. And three days later I went into labor. Good luck!

I should ask, but since I'm not yet 40 weeks pregnant I'm not sure if they would do that. I have another checkup on Monday and if I'm not any more dilated I will definately ask if something can be done. This can't be healthy. I'm going to need my strength and energy for when the baby decides to actually make his arrival. Thanks for the advice.

I was just in l&d last night and I will be 34 wks on Monday. I went in for low fetal movement and ended up having contractions two-five mins apart. I am also 1 cm dilated. I hope he stays in for a few wks longer like every else has done:) I am a March mommy. I go to the doc on Tues for another check up and on bed rest till then.
Thanks,
Erin
