I am 5 weeks pregnant and the reason I went to the doctor was because all my symptoms that I had just stopped, like nausea and going to the bathroom. They did an US and found just a sac. They said that things don't look good. I did a blood test and 3 days later it came back as double. They said that it is still possible for it to increase and still have a miscarriage. I have another US on monday and I am so nervous. I have already gotten used to that it is not good!

I just wanted to give everyone a little bit of hope. Last year I had 2 miscarriages because of a blighted ovum. I found out a few weeks ago that I was again pregnant. I went to the doctor earlier this time (5w 4d). My doctor did a u/s and found a sac, but nothing in it. She said it looked a little small. Needless to say I was devastated. My doctor prescribed me 100mg progesterone supp. to take twice a day. My next u/s was yesterday... exactly 7 weeks. Right away we saw a fetal pole and a heatbeat. She measured it and it was exactly the size it was supposed to be. I know I'm going to continue to worry a little because I can't help it, but I was so happy because I've always had just an empty sac. So for those of you in the same boat, hang in there and don't give up hope. It may just be too early to tell. Besides, the days may be slightly off if you don't ovulate on exactly the 14th day of your cycle. Good luck to all you. Try and think positive.

I return to this site three weeks after my last posting. I went to a NEW doctor today after my previous experience (jan 19 post). I am 9 weeks pregnant, saw the heartbeat, and the pregnancy looks good. This after the previous doctor was ready to schedule me for a d&c...so, keep your hopes up everyone, and don't be so quick to listen to what the doctors tell you. I'm glad I switched doctors...thought a woman would be more in-tune than a man, but boy was that a naive thought! Best of luck everyone!

i am having the same problem. I went to the doctors, a__suming from my dates that i am supposed to be 11 weeks and 3 days. My u/s dated me at only 5 1/2 weeks. It had no heartbeat and my yolk sac is an irregular shape. the doctors said that it doesnt look good for this pregnancy. I have another u/s on the 28 to see if the baby had progressed. I really hope that everything turns out ok, the doctor said that not to many babies turn out with an irregular yolk. Please wish me luck. Im very nervous.

Hey all...I am going through the same thing... Thursday I had my first U/S to try to date my pregnancy. The tech said if I was sure I was pg, when all of a sudden he saw the sac. He said he didn't see anything in it, so he asked if I wanted a transv____al U/S, and I said yes. I had the U/S done, and then asked if we had twins in my family. I said 'yes.' I asked why, and he said he was seeing signs of twins. So, today the office called and asked to see me right away. I went in, and they did a quant_tive blood test. I get my results from it on Monday. The doctor told me and my mom, that more than likely I am having a miscarriage. I don't feel that way though, and I asked why he felt this was going to happen. He said because he didn't see a fetal pole, and because one of the sacs was elliptical in shape. I was like 'whatever'. I am anxious for it to be monday now. praying for all of you mamas.

We're on our second pregnancy. Our first baby was stillborn and we are desperately hoping that this pregnancy works out. We went in for a 6wks 2days sonogram after a bit of spotting, but the nurse could only find a gestational sac in the uterus. The doctor dated the gestational sac at 4wks 4days and seemed unconcerned since my wife has irregular menstrual periods. The sac looked healthy, demonstrated no involution, but it seemed many days younger than what we had calculated as the gestational age of our baby. To add to our concerns, two weeks ago we went in for a quant_tative HCG test and came back with 589 as our number. According to the dates of the doctor, this would have been when the baby was 2wks, 6days. This seems like an impossibility. Still, we had some more blood drawn on Thursday and had some promising results; HCG had doubled to an appropriate 5545 for a 4wk4day gestation, which again seems rather high to me. We went for another beta-HCG to test again, but they're telling us to wait a few weeks to get a sonogram. Does anybody (particularly medically inclined folks) have any sense about what might be happening here? Obviously our biggest concern is a blighted ovum. We've had so many terrible losses this year, I just hate to bear another.

Hi. I had an u/s today. i've been bleeding slightly for 2 weeks, but the last two days have been like a period. not only that, i had a few globs of bloody mucus (sorry if your eating right now). my doctor didn't seem concerned about the show of blood. they all say, oh yes, it does that sometime. it doesn't help me feeling freaked out. then with all this blood! i went to the hospital. they did an internal examination and found my cervix closed. so where's the blood coming from? the ultrasound today showed a sac and no yolk. they took blood, but won't tell me anything. they didn't even advise me to see the doctor until next week. so it's kind of left me hanging. the bleeding has slowed down. it's on and off, heavy then light. i have had no pain in the belly wahtsoever. my pregnancy history includes two miscarriages. one was when i got to 8 weeks. the u/s showed that the baby died at 6 weeks. that was hard on me. then it took me almost a year to get pregnant again and my stupid husband wouldn't do waht the doctor advised and we lost taht one too. i divorced him and my new husband and i have gone on to have two daughters, problem free. until this year. just when i began to suspect i might be pregnat, i got a really heavy, painful period. i took that to be a miscarrraige. then the one in feb and now this. i don't know what is going to happen. i just want my baby...

I am going through the same thing right now. I found out I was pregnant at four weeks, they did an u/s and saw noting. They said it was too early to tell but my hcg was normal at around 2,000. So I went back a week later and hcg had doubled plus some it is now 13,000 they could see a sac and a yolk but no fetal pole, and the doctor really scared me by saying that at an hcg count of 11,000 he would have really should have seen a fetal pole. I am waiting anxiously to find out either good or bad news but really expecting bad news since my first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 6 and a half weeks. But then I have talked to some who say that 5 weeks is too early to see a fetal pole. So I am trying to remain positive it is just really hard. But hang in there...I am sure we aren't the only ones. I will have hope for the both of us :)

i just thought i would update you. I was pregnant, but i got heavy bleeding a few days later. The doc said it was either a miscarriage or would turn into one. he did an internal exam and said my cervix was partually open. So i went in and had a curette. I felt sad, but i have had one before and went on to have a baby so i wans't too worried that i might not ever have another. HOWEVER, 10 days later, i got abdominal pains. so bad that they called an ambulance. turns out that i was having twins - one was in my uterus, the other in my fallopian tube. Yeah, i had an etcopic pregnancy. i underwent emergency surgury and lost my right fallopian tube. the doctor a__sured me that as long as my other side was working, i'd have a baby - it would just take longer. i go to see him later this month. They gave me pamphlets for a support group, SANDS, i don't know if you've heard of it or are a part of it. i rang them and they haven't rang back. Right now, i know no one with the same problem that i can talk to. i feel very scared. i've looked on the net and it's all people saying they've had it and haven't been pregnant since. My regular doctor is no help. he doesn't know anything. i know more than he does... so i'm going to unsubscribe. talking about babies is just too painful when i don't know what the future holds.

Hi, I know how all of you feel. I have 2 healthy children but have had 4 miscarriages. I wrote this first posting when I was pregnant in Dec. I lost that baby. When my doc. told me it would happen in due time I knew it was time for me to go to someone else. I went to an infertility spec. and have undergone several test. We now know that I have a very very high antibody level and endometriosis (SP). She says I would never have carried a baby without medication. I go for my first hormone implant tomorrow. I just pray that everything goes o.k.

I went to the Dr. today and had an u/s. According to my LMP I should be a little over 6 1/2 weeks. I saw only the gest. sac and the yolk sac and no fetal pole or h/b. I am scared to death. The Dr. did not take a blood test for my hcg level and wants me to come back in 2 weeks for another u/s. Any suggestions?

Amy - July 7

Anne i went in for a u/s at 6wk 5d and all we could see was the sac and the heart motion but could not make out fetal pole so i have to go back next week to make sure all is going well

I too have been having some problems, My first preg. was an ectopic ending up with the removal of my right tube. 6 months later and I am 5w4d preg. Had bleeding and was admitted to hospital. They examined me and told me that I was not miscarrying. U/S revealed a sac and yolc sac but no fetal pole. From what I have read on other websites it is normal not to see a fetal pole or hb at this time. In several cases the first u/s is meant to be in the 8w. So I think that in most cases we have to be a bit patient before jumping to conclusions. I wish u all the very best
