I had a cerclage placed back on June 13th. They basically gave me a spinal to numb me from the waste down which really sucked because it took them 30 minutes to find the correct spot. Then they placed my legs in stirrups and used one of those things that they do pap smears with to keep me open ( it was really big). It only took about 20-30 minutes for them to do the cerclage and I have had no problems ever since then. I got the cerclage when I was 15 weeks and I am now 22 weeks. hope everything goes well for you!!!!!!!

Thank You Very Much, Sam! I feel alittle more at ease. My doctor did say that my cervix is easy to work with that it will be done quickly. He said that I will be in the hospital for like 3-4 hours for observation and then I can go home. Are you on restrictions or bedrest????? Please get back to me as soon as you can. My prayers are with you and your family.

I had a cerclage place in April when I was 14 weeks. The procedure wasn't that bad, I had to stay in the hospital for about 8 or 9 hours afterwards just because it took that long for my spinal to wear off. After that I was able to do everything I had been doing. I did end up on bedrest at home when I hit 25 weeks, but this was much better that the 3 months in the hospital on bedrest with my first baby. I was released from bedrest at 33 weeks. I am now 35 weeks, and am getting ready to have the cerclage removed next week. It was definitely worth the trouble to be able to stay at home, and still have a healthy baby.

Hello all! I got my cerclage placed at 11 1/2 weeks. The whole procedure took about 20-30 minutes. The spinal was the worse part for me because it didn't wear off for 5 1/2 hours. The doctor has me on: no s_x, no tub, walking in my house only, no driving, no cleaning/vacuuming. Anyone else restricted like me???? I am now 13 weeks.

I had a cerclage put in at 21 weeks--they caught my cervix opening a little late--I've heard it is much better if they do the procedure earlier than this. I have been on "moderate" bedrest (no work, no s_x, no driving, no chores--only up for a maximum of 45 minutes at a time and only within my home, since 28 weeks. I'm almost 36 weeks and will have the cerclage removed at 37 weeks. All has been successful so far, so it has definately been worth it. I'm wondering if anyone out there has gone into labor before the cerclage is removed? I've been having dull pain in my cervical area over the past week, and I believe I've lost my mucous plug, so I'm wondering if this is the beginning of labor? Any ideas?

It's nice to here from so many others. I had my first child at 24 weeks. He was 1lb 8 oz. He was in the hospital for a long time but has no real problems other than he wears contacts. He is know four and we are pregnant again I get my cerclage in four weeks. I am nervous but anything to not have a repeat. Also my doctor said that I would be under general anstehetic. not sure if it is the same as the spinal.

I just had a rescue cerclage put in at 24 weeks... I was dialated 3cm when i got the hospital. They put me on a bed that made me sleep with my feet up and head down because my sac was bulging too and they were trying to work against gravity to keep it from coming out further. The spinal was frustrating because they could not find the "right spot". But after they got that in everything went fine. I had a lot of pain after the spinal wore off, but they gave some wonderful drug that helped me sleep and took away the pain... Now i am on bedrest. Is there a rule of thumb as to how long I will be on bedrest? My doctor keeps saying we will have to play it by ear weekly, but wants to get me to 36 weeks.

I had my cerclage placed at 13weeks (currently 28 1/2) I didn't get a spinal for the procedure I had general anesthesia.. no pain there. I did have a lot of pain for a few days after the procedure though. With my frist pregnancy they caught my shortened cervix too late and I was on 5 1/2 weeks hospitalized bed rest. So far no bed rest this time but I have dealt with a few infections from the st_tch which have been anything but fun. I'm also on complete pelvic rest but I can do regular activities in mordeation, just no heavy lifting or squatting. I'm looking forward to having the st_tch removed! Good luck to you, the earlier it's put in the better the chances are!
