I live in San Diego CA and before I got pregnant I was know to take a hit of marijuana here and there maybe 3 to 4 hits per night, every other night...after the kids are in bed. HOWEVER when I found out I was pregnant I stoped!! I am currently 14 weeks pregnant. I had my bloodwork done about 4 weeks ago saw my OBGYN today and he says to me... "Your drug screen came back positive for marijuana" I was shocked... it had been about 3 weeks since I used before my bloodwork.. and i hardly smoked, I thought I would have been clean by then, so I told him the truth, "Dr. that was before I found out I was pregnant, I quit when I found out" and that was the end of the topic... MY question is DOES HE HAVE TO REPORT THIS TO CPS??? SHOULD HE HAVE DISCLOSED TO ME THAT HE IS GOING TO REPORT IT IF HE IS?? I have been a patient of his for 8 years he delivered my last 2 children and I have never had a positive drug test during any of my pregnancies or deliveries. If he does report it can any one share their experience with me as to how it turned out? Does anyone know the answer or am I just being paranoid? I want what is best for my baby that is why i quit as soon as I found out.

well im not really sure what the law is were u live , but in most place there is a little thing called doctor-patient confidentiality, ur doctor does not have the right to go the the cops, dont get me wrong im not trying to say that u smoking marijuana is in any way OK esp when u have small children or at a risk of becoming pregnant, i advise u to stop and keep away from all drugs, good luck with ur pregnancy and take this time to be more positive about urself and remember u dont "need" drugs ur kids should be able to give u the best highs. take care

well your doctor may not report you but just be a__sured he may test the baby at the time of birth because of your postive and if the baby shows a positive...then it will be reported but I would think that your doctor should have imformed you if at the time of your blood they were checking for drugs...my doctor did not do this not that it would have shown postive but that is not what they tested for and I think it is a bit strange they would do this without your concent...I would change doctors if I were you..

Actually, in Canada, I AM a CPS worker. Out here, positive screen during pregnancy equals automatic referral to my agency. We don't wait til the baby is born. We get involved as soon as we get the referral. We don't always take the kids... usually I seek to work with parents voluntarily (when possible), and have them do screens, and other things so I can ensure the safety of the kids. When you deliver, baby will also be tested. We usually remain involved for about 6 months to a year after a positive screen. Also, if you refuse to co-operate, or other unsafe conditions exist in the home, I can apprehend the kids, and I can place them in care, or with friends/family until your place is safe again. Or, I can get a court order to force co=operation, and if you still refuse, or don't follow the order, you are at risk of losing your children. You should ask your doc how long mj stays in your system. You will be surprised undoubtedly. Good luck, I really hope that this all works out for you and the kids.
