Pain Involved In A D C

I was 7 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I had 3 ultrasounds in a week and was spotting/staining and was told today that the baby stopped growing and didn't have a heartbeat. My dr. wants me to have a D&C but I want to wait to see if my body can get rid of the tissue naturally. I want to know how much a D&C hurts, I am petrified to have the procedure.

my fisrt miscarriage resulted in a d&c. it was painless. the nurses were talking to me as i was being put under and the next thing i remember was waking up in recovery with no cramping and totally pain free. your periods will also be lighter.

To add to my question... the dr. wants to do it in the office with novicaine shots into my cervix... he says it only takes 5 minutes to do... thanks for any answers!

i had a dnc when i miscarried, the docs recommened it so that you get completely cleaned out and dont risk infection. It is painless, they put me under, so i dont know how long it took, but it didnt hurt at all nor was i sore after the procedure. They did recommed not getting preg for 6 months after though, just a heads up.

Inform your doctor that you would prefer to be put under instead, if that would make you more comfortable. I was put under when I had a DnC because I was told by my doctor that if your cervix has never been opened before then dialation can be painful - even for local anesethics.
