i had my merina put in place in december, and after they put it in i bled for a good 2 weeks, but since then i haven't had my period. they said that happens to some women which i don't mind, but i'm starting to feel pregnant all over agian. i've been really tired, have to pee all the time, been feeling sick *example* the other day i was sittin next to my husband who shaved the day before. i could SMELL HIS AFTER SHAVE and it was making me sooo sick. i've been EXTREMELY irritable and i'm not sure if its my body reacting with the hormones or not. if anyone here has gotten pregnant with the iud in place, how did you find out? how were you feeling? and just to anyone who might have the merina, could this just be from the hormones? anything would help. i had my son in oct so another baby so soon wouldn't be the best for us.

This post caught my eye because I was just at my 35 week appt. yesterday and I got some info from the dr about merina IUD.In this booklet I read, nausea and mood changes are listed as possible side effects, but it also says to call you dr right away if you think you may be pregnant. Apparently, mirena can increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy, and cause severe complications in uterine pregnancy. It says it is often necessary to remove the IUD if pregnancy occurs, although removing it may cause a miscarraige. It also says that leaving it in place during a uterine pregnancy increases the chance if infection and/or miscarraige. It mentions that the majority of users reported a much lower incidence of general side effect after 3 months of use than during the first 3 month period, so if your just now feeling nausea and mood changes, you should probably go see your dr for a pregnancy test. A blood test will probably be necessary as ectopic pregnancy can sometimes be a__sociated with very low HCG levels. Good luck, Lillie, let me know how things work out for you!

Some babies are born with the IUD in place. Yes, you could be pregnant.

I have the merina iud. I have had it for 2 years. In the beginning it was a pain because I bled for the first six months. I am now regular, and have no complaints except that I may or may not be late. Which may or may not mean anything-since I have been told and have read conflicting information regarding the iud. I have been told that you can still have a period as usual and I have been told that you may not have a period. So how would one know if they were really pregnant? HPT, blood tests come up negative and ultra-sounds come back undetermined! I a__sumed that 98%-99.9% effective was a high percentage and pretty much foolproof; not to mention it is nice not having to take a pill everyday! I have 4 GIRLS and they are all pill babies and not because the pill failed me; I forgot to take my pill everyday. That is why I was thrilled my doctor recommended the iud. I have taken a hpt and it came back negative. I am really hoping that it is all in my mind. I have most if not all of the symptoms listed in the postings in this forum. Is it possible that the majority suffer these symptoms as a result of being FEMALE? Do I really need to be pregnant to have mood swings, fatigue and hate my husbands after shave? LOL! :) Well only time will tell if any of us are pregnant. I guess the 1-2% is larger than it seems. Maybe when we ask about birth preventative methods we need to inquire about the percentage of pregnancies while using them? LOL! :)

I had my merina put in 18 months ago. Since then I have suffered hormonal backache (like when you are premenstrual). My b___sts have enlarged and are constantly sore. And I have put on weight. Yes there are mood changes too. On the positive side for all of that time I haven't had a period. However I am now sick of my sore back and b___sts so I had it removed yesterday. I am hoping the weight will go down and my b___sts will return to normal. Did anyone else experience weight gain. I guess all this makes sense as it is meant to trick your body into thinking it is pregnant. Will advise later if there is an improvement.

I had the merina placed in January and I'm going in on Tuesday to see if it's still there. I can't feel the strings to it and have all the symptoms of pregnancy lately. Me and my fiance just had a son 4 months ago so the entire point of having the IUD was because it's supposed to be the best form of birth control. So I guess I'll see when I go in...

hi my name is laura i had the marina coil put in 08/05/06.I was feeling pregnant like you. Went back for my 6 week check up and they couldnt find my strings. I done a pregnancy test it was positive. But i was already 4weeks pregnant when i had marina fitted. Having really bad complications now 13 weeks pregnant and can loose the baby at any time between now and 24 weeks. It is not very common to fall pregnant on marina and that is why they do not have much data on pregnancy's which occur with marina in situ. Do a home pregnancy test asap please let me no how you get on thinking of you

So this is the second forum I have come across with woman getting pregnant with the Marina. I have had mine two years in February of 06. My periods fluctuated to long and heave to nothing to just a seven day normal one. Well this past week I have had many pregnancy symptoms. I felt for my strings and could still feel them so I am hoping it was a good sign. I am sick to my stomach constantly and smells are making me wanna puke. Im so tired all the time that I can lay down at any moment and sleep. The only one symptom I dont really have is the chest tenderness. I just had implants put in in February and am not sure if that would change any of the sensation. I have two children already and am starting my life with a wonderful man who I have been with for a year. I want to do it right this time with the marriage and then child. So I don't know if it is just in my head and im thinking stupid or could I really be pregnant??

I also have merina coil in about 2 and a half years now. The last couple months i've been feeling that i'm pregnant. I've never had any bother with the coil and i've checked and the strings are still there. About 1 month after i had it fitted my periods stopped, I took a pregnency test the other day after 5 mins there was only 1 line (over the moon) went back to bed for a while when i got up decided to check it again just to make sure and there was 2 lines on it, done another test after 5 mins just 1 line so left it another while just to make sure and there was 2 lines on it again. Has this happened to anyone else and could anyone tell me could the hormones in the merina coil affected the outcome of a pregnancy test.

Hi there that what happen with me i had pregnancy tast and same happen i lift for 15 mins it was tow line and i,m not so it happen with the marina

gwenaoife- Make sure that you read the directions on the pregnancy test. Most tests say not to read them after a certain period of time, because there is a high rate of false positives. ie. You may read it within the required time frame within five minutes or whatever, and get an accurate positive. But, if you read it again thirty minutes later for example, it is likely to have changed to positive, but it does not mean you are pregnant. The time window for accuracy varies depending on the brand you use.

I am having the same symptoms. I had my second child in October and had it put in 4 weeks ago. I am going to get a test tonight. I have been pregnant 3 times in the last 28 months, and i really don't want to be pregnant again for a long time. If i am pregnant, the only reason would be that my IUD fell out. I know one thing if i am it would be the last time for sure.

Mommamoo - January 5

Okay I'm having a situation, after reading so many negative things tonight, i'm so scared! I have 4 children allready, i've had a merena IUD for 4 1/2 years now, and i'm scared I may be pregnant, I have all the symptoms. I have had nasuea, tiredness, cramping, hungry, irritable and b___st tenderness. I haven't had my period sence October. What should I do? I took a pregnancy test a few weeks ago, it was negative, but I still feel pregnant. We didn't want anymore children and I'm exhausted as it is. But I don't know if i'm making to much out of this, but i'm really scared right now!
