Duplex Kidney

My last ultrasound showed that my baby has a duplex kidney. Something like a double pyelon or something like that.. it seems that part of its right kidney is doubled.. I'm worried about what this might mean for my baby! Has anyone else heard of this condition??

I have a daughter with that same condition they call it a double kidney. I didn't find out until she was 11 months old she was having UTI two months in a row she was taken to a Urologist who diagnosed her condition. She was put on antibiotics so that she would not have infections. She is now 10 years old and hasn't been on medicine since she was 3 years old. The last time I had her tested was two years ago because of our family moving so much. She has what they call reflux which means that when her kidneys empty into her bladder it goes back up the tube where the kidney is double. I can either have her have surgery to correct it which will take a month for her to recover or have her put on antibotics for the rest of her life, or do nothing. We have chosen to do nothing at this time because she has not had an infection since she was 12 months old. I don't want her to have to go through that worrying about surgery if there is no major problem going on. Hope this has helped you. You just may have to keep an close on on it and have the baby tested at different times in its life. I also have a brother who has a daughter with the same thing, I heard that it can run in the family line.

thank you for your answer Jo, it is rea__suring to know that your daughter lives a relatively normal life with this. I was told that it is genetic. I don't know anyone in my family who has it though.
