I have a bicornuate uterus which is also known as a heart shapped uterus. I have had three healthy pregnancies and threee wonderful and perfect babies. my first 2 pregnancies were v____al births and they were girls. My last baby was a c-section, because my son was a transverse lie, laying side ways. I am now pregnant with my forth baby, and still everything is fine. Somewomwn have to have a st_tch put in there cervix if they have this bicornuate uterus, i have been ok without it. All do not worry about this bicornuate uterus that we have it makes us special not ab normal.

Definitely find a new doctor. I'm not sure why mine didn't notice I had one before I went into labor and was told I'd need a c-section, but my daughter was frank breech, too. Ironically, it seems to be the only thing I have in common with my mother's pregnancy. She has a heart-shaped uterus, too, and I was also frank breech. Apparently that's the most natural or comfortable position for babies to settle into with wombs of this shape. Bugger if I'd ever hear of it before they cut me open last Saturday.

I have a heart-shaped uterus, and I think you need to find a new doctor. At five weeks, when I went in for some spotting, my doctor sat me down, as did the nurse pract_tioner, and had a log talk with me about my uterus's shape. I actually miscarried at 11 weeks -- the fetus was only 8 -- but the doctor wasn't alarmed. I guess the severity of the septum plays a role.

I also had a heat shaped uterus, I had four mc before i found out. I did have surgery and now Im 5 weeks. I am praying the surgery did its job. I had an apt. on Monday and my Hcg level was good, my next apt. is tomorrow hoping the hcg is even higher. My Dr. said because I had this surgery I have a 70% chance of having a healthy baby!!!

Wow! I am so glad I found this site! I just found out about my bicornuate uterus on Feb. 14 (Valentines Day....go figure..what a nice gift! a heart shaped uterus) Anyway, it was discovered by accident during a lap test for fibroids. I don't have any children yet, but planning to conceive soon. I'm scared because of the chance of miscarrying. Does anyone recommend surgery? My doctor said absolutely not because I am literally counting my chickens before they hatch and everything will be fine. Has anyone had the surgery? I'm such a worry wart!

Melissa, I would definitely NOT have surgery until you try pregnancy. I know it sounds very hard, but bicornuate uterus is different in everyone. i have a BU and have had 2 m/c, and am now on pg 3 and I'm 26 1/2w. Please think very carefully before surgery, there are a lot of possible bad outcomes, and should only be done as a last resort!
Many many many women have bu and don't even know it until they have a c-section. I would give yourself a shot first before you consider something as drastic as surgery.

I too have a bu which was detected in 1997 after 3 mc then in 98 I delievered a health baby girl who was in no hurry to enter our world infact she was 2 wks late! A year later I had another mc and now 8 years on I am preg again and going through all the mixed emotions all over again. Years ago I found a wonderful Women's Forum and found it rea__suring that I wasn't the only one with a bc. So you can imagine my joy in finding another. My heart and throughts go out to you all, keep up the wonderful support and remember your not alone out there.

I to have a heart shaped uterus and successfully delivered a heallthy baby boy in 2004 (c-section). With a heart shaped uterus the portion at the top which makes up the heart usually has less blood supply therefore if the egg were to attach in that area there is a chance for a miscarriage. It is very common to have this shape of uterus. If your baby is in the breech presentation just let him be. The physician may want to try and turn the baby but it most likely will not work. I learned this the hard way. Congratulations on your pregnancy

Jen1604: Wow. My doctor never told me anything about the embryo receiving less blood if it the egg implants itself in one of the horns of the uterus. This is very interesting and actually makes a lot of sense. Are there ways to improve blood flow or decrease chances of further curtailing blood flow through exercise, avoiding long periods in a seated position, etc.?

I just found I have a heart shaped uterus as well. I am glad I found this site, I had no idea it was so common. I am not pregnant and not planning on being pregnant any time too soon. Although my doctor feels strongly that I should have the surgery if I EVER want children. I guess not only is it heart shaped but very small as well. The surgery sounded like no big deal. Has anyone had it? researched the complications? Se seems to think there is no way if I even could concieve that I could ever carry a baby. xxx

think this site is great, but I have the feeling those that have bad experiences don't want to get on these sites to post. I too have a bicornuate uterus, it was found last week. I had a previous pregnancy that I lost at 20 wks, with preterm labor, incomp. cervix, and complete abruption. I am 11wks now, the baby is implanted only in the left side. They are thinking about doing a cerclage at 14wks. I think with proper precautions and medical intervention it increases the chances of a positive outcome. All the positive feedback is great, but all must know there are high risks also! I am very scared about this pregancy. Good luck to all.

I too have a bicornuate uterus with a normal right side and very small left side (dangerous if an embryo implanted there.) In 1999, I m/c'd at 11wks and went on to have a healthy boy at 35wks and 2 days, weighing 4lbs 12 oz by c-section. He was a footling breech. I didn't know about my uterus until the surgery. now am preggo at 11wks, no spotting and everything ok so far, u/s showed implantation on the safe, right, side of my uterus, still worried at times, but hoping for the best. Love this chat room and wishing everyone the best.

Hi everyone, great site. My husband and I have been trying for 2 years to get pregnant. We had all the fertility testing we could, it wasn't him, and I just had a dye test (x-ray thing) done in May and it showed a heart shaped uterus. We kept trying because our dr said that shouldn't effect conception, but now after doing blood work to see if I was ovulating, we found out that I wasn't. I now have been given a clomid prescription (haven't started it yet) and was wondering if anyone knows about clomid and a heart shaped uterus. I know that it increases the chances of multiple births and I wonder how this may go with a uterus of our shape? Does anyone know anything about all of this (or even some of it?) My doctor doesn't seem too worried. Thanks all.

Randi1- Funny - I have your same name. Anyway- I too have a heart shaped uterus, no need to stress. I had bleeding too in the beginning...just take it easy. I also had 3 miscarriages and am now 34 weeks pregnant. Dr. put me on mild bedrest at 24 weeks due to major cramping, but I and baby are OK. He is head down as well....my uterus is lightening so he is getting ready to come. A lot of times heart shaped uterus cannot deliver via v____al- but I have lucked out so far. E-mail me if you have questions.. randimquick@aol.com
