IUD Malfuction

I posted on February 14th about my upcoming ultrasound because the doctor could not find the strings. It turns out all is well. The strings were just cut really short to begin with.... something I wouldn't recommend. I really feel for all of you struggling with pregancies while having an IUD. I plan on having my IUD taken out in the next few months due to all the complications I am hearing about.... plus I am not so sure all the slow release hormones are so good for the body long term. According to my Chiropractor it's hard on your bones and your body. I haven't found any concerns about it on the web anywhere except this site and my Chiropractor. Anybody have any more insight about the slow release hormones?

OMG!!! I told my husband tonight that I have been having some symptoms. I wanted to do some reserch and came across this website. I have the Paraguard. I have been sooo tired, light spotting, uterus has felt "tight" and cramping and this morning I had some morning sickness. I have also been very moody and emotional. I had all these symptoms when I was preggo with my daughter. This all so strange. I have had the IUD for almost 3 years and have recently started losing weight. I'm so nervous...I really don't want to be preggos. We have one wonderful daughter, and really, we are only planning on one child. I guess good things would be that we can afford another child and our insurance is fabulous (my husband is in the army). But at the same time, this isn't in our plan. I am not late yet, but if I am, I will be buying a test right away!

this whole thing is like a nightmare! I just got on the mirena on january 3, im only 17 with one little boy but i do not want anymore for a loooong time, so i thought, this is perfect for me! Well i bled for two weeks straight then it stopped and on the 16 of feb i bled again and it stll hasnt stopped. but ever since i left the hospital in november (when my son was born) its been nothing but problems!!! when i had my episiotmy, my a___l spinter was torn, so everytime i have a bowel movement i bleed, then this iud thing, i feel dizzy, but not really pregnant, been losing weight, but every now and then i feel flutters, my mom said its just gas but i dunno im just freaked out, so i toke a hmp last night, it was neg. i feel the strings but im tired of bleeding, could i be having a misc.?? i couldnt sleep last night, i kept dreaming i was in the hospital and the nurse told me the iud was out but the baby died....im going insane. but my sister in law and my friend are both on the mirena, i remember both of them compaing the thought they were preg, but they both told me it went away....

I did want to try the paragaurd because I cant really take much else. I had really bad reactions to the patch and the shot so there shoots down estrogen and progesterone! My family has a bad history of blood clots if that explains anything. I am 20 and am going to married soon... I am planning on having one kid some time in the future (maybe after college) I just really was hoping to find BC that was a little more effective and intimate than condoms... Now I am not so sure... I dont want a baby yet and I definately dont want an eptopic pregnancy! I am still wondering what the exact chances of this is... Any advice?

I have had the IUD for a little over a year and think I am pregnant. For the last 3 weeks I have been having tender b___sts as I did with my 8 year old daughter and I am a week late. I am very regular to the exact day and time and no period. I did a hpt today and it came out negative but I know something is not right. I checked for my string today and noticed that i only feel one and it is way shorter. I am also having a constant pain in my right ovary. This is really scary. What happened to the 99.99% effectiveness.

I'm 36, I have the Mirena "T" (the 5 year one). I am just finishing up the 5th year as of February. I tried to schedule my 5 yr. check up/replacement for February, like I do every year, but they couldn't see me until March 8th. February marks 5 years with no period, no problems, until the middle of the month. I started having pregnancy symptoms mid February: Bloating, b___st tenderness, morning sickness, hungry, but then can only eat a bit before full, gas, gaining weight and flutters. Same symptoms I got when I was pregnant before. I tried to move my appointment up becuase I was concerned that the Mirena had stopped being effective and I was pregnant. They told me it was not possible and if I was pregnant it would miscarry anyway. Becuase of my symptoms I took an Early Response HPT Friday and got a negative result. I feel so stupid. How likely is it that that is wrong? They will see me today, can I make them do a blood serum check? If I'm not pregnant what is wrong with me? I was a very strong advocate for Mirena as I have had it for 5 years and no periods (how sweet) no problems... um...until now. Do I put another Mirena in? After reading this board I don't feel so wonderful about my B/C options.

The Dr. told me my Mirena hasn't been in as long as I thought, that it is still good until next February. They did a urine pregnancy test, it was also negative. She said, "basically honey, you're blood pressure is up and you feel bloated and out of breath and uncomfotable because you gained 20 pounds since your last visit, you are NOT pregnant. Your IUD position is fine, your strings are short, but that is not a concern. Hopefully knowing you are not pregnant will ease some of these other symptoms," HM. Ok. Not pregnant. Well, I guess I'll start a more serious diet and exersize regimin. Going to keep on using what's been working for me, but add condoms to the repetoir. Just in case. Thanks for listening. (I still feel very pregnant.)

Hey everyone, I have had the Marina coil in for five years and had it replaced during surger for endometriosis. Since jan 05 until june 05 i was having decap injections which basically put you in to pusado menapause because of endometriosis. In august i started having periods again after an internal exam by my gyne. Over the past five years i have not had one period up until that point because of the coil and i was very happy with that. I took no action when my periods started again in august because i a__sumed it was due to coming of the injections. well, my peiod is now a week late, the coil is still there as i can feel, after a lot of trying, 1 string. i have done to hpt and both negitive, one at two days late and 1 at 4 days late. i called the doctor and he would like me to send in a urine sample and asked me to call him if i get any bleeding, paint or faintness. now im worried. any thoughts on the above. sorry its so all over the place but i guess thats just the way my head is right now! lol

I have had the marena IUD in for 3 years now and I have started having problems. I can feel it moving and sc___ping. I have also had preg. symptoms. I had my visit to the gyno. and he told me to conceder removing it within a year. He had a very hard time locating the strings it is moving upward. I took a hpt also and it came out neg, but I had 2 kids and I know my body. I do think I am preg, whick would not bother me a bit since I love being a mother.

biggirl002 - March 30

i'm on the waiting list for d&c and have the marina coil fitted at the same time

I just wanted to poke my head in here and say that I'm going in on tuesday to find out if I'm pregnant too. I can't feel the strings, I have a mirena, and have all the symptoms of pregnancy except for a late period, I haven't had a period since I got the IUD in January. I'm really scared about this because even though we would both be extremely excited about having a baby, we just had a son 4 months ago and I don't think we could afford another child financially or emotionally. If I am pregnant, then our babies will be exactly a year apart! The reason I got the IUD was because we can't afford another one right now and after hearing all these stories of IUD failure, I'm really freaking out! what happened to the IUD being almost fail proof?? lol!

carly m - April 5

Okay, I just took my hpt and the test came back posative!!!!! I have a two and half year ols and a 11 month old!!! I have had the mirena IUD since my 11 month old was born and I was told that it is 99.5 % effective. Either I am the 0.5% or that number is a little off. When I decided to get the IUD my mom told me to think about it because she got pregnant on an IUD with my younger sister (who is just fine). I am going to my doc tomorrow morning to figure everything out. Wish me luck with the removal, I am nervous. While this is a surprise, my husband and I are happy and want everything to ge well.

rhiadem - April 6

I recently had my IUD removed on March 29th. Prior to getting it removed I began having symptoms which I wrote off as PMS, as we all know that the symptoms are pretty similar. I am now on day 33 since my last period and have taken 4 pregnancy tests since my period was due...all negative....however I'm going to see the dr tomorrow and ask questions, maybe get a referral for a GYN apt, and hopefully get a blood preg test. I'm really worried especially after reading so many of the messages I've read on here and just ask you guys to pray that everything goes well.....we'd love to have another baby right now but I'm not holding my breath until I know whats going on with me.

jessiiee2005 - April 6

I just wanted to make an update on my IUD, it is still in there, my doc cut the strings a lot shorter then he told me. the tests were negative for pregnancy too! good luck to all of you who are having possible malufunctions!

rhiadem - April 7

well I got my period about 10 minutes ago, guess I'm not pregnant....hopefully some time in the future I'll be able to conceive I will be really upset if this thing messed up my chances........

Sarah123 - April 7

rhiadem- I had my paragard IUD in for almost 3 years. I know the frustration and wonder if it killed your chances of conceiving again. I just found out after 4 cycles of TTC that I am pg again with number 3. It took getting used to my body's cycles again (which are pretty regular) and being able to read the signs of ovulation. I do not know that I am ovulating every cycle now, but I am older. Take care, Sarah
