rhiadem- I had my paragard IUD in for almost 3 years. I know the frustration and wonder if it killed your chances of conceiving again. I just found out after 4 cycles of TTC that I am pg again with number 3. It took getting used to my body's cycles again (which are pretty regular) and being able to read the signs of ovulation. I do not know that I am ovulating every cycle now, but I am older. Take care, Sarah

I am not pregnant, praise God, the dr is giving me one year to decide what to do about the marina because it took him almost 25 minutes to find the strings, he is concerned that the marina will go further up and it won't be easy to remove. Ladies please think about all of the possible side effects and ha__sel of the iuds. At least with pills you can stop taking them if you have side effects. I have not had a real period in over 3 years. I have a little period every couple of months for 10 days straight with cramps so bad I cry and can't be a mother to my 2 girls. I will never get another iud.

Hi. I was reading everything that posted in this forum and I have to admit, am completely shocked. I didnt realize so many woman had become pregnant while an IUD was intact. I have the Paraguard. It has been in for 5yrs now. I have also been on time every month for the past 5yrs. Only now, I am 2 1/2 weeks late. I have taken a HPT about a week ago and it was negative, plus I have had cramping so I havent concerned myself to much with it. Only now, after reading all this, I am kind of concerned. I really dont need a baby right now. My youngest is 5. What are the chances of me being pregnant? Any suggestions?

wow this is all really ticking me off. I had a mirena IUD inserted January 16, 2006. The first two periods were long and heavy compared to normal. Then I was late but hpt came up negative and I got my period a few days later. Now I'm VERY late and had very light, brown spotting for two days. Had one red spot when I wiped (sorry if TMI). I'm worried this is implantation. I fell asleep at work and I have to pee constantly. Why is it that every form of birth control out there fails for me? I think all these manufacturers should fix their statistics. This will be the third birthcontrol failure for me and I'm only 21! God help me. Well I wish you all the best and I hope we all get answers soon.

Hi, my name is Lisa and Ive had the Mirena IUD since November 2005. It is still in place and yet i had a positive HPT about 3 weeks ago. I went in for a blood test the next day. They never told me the exact number but did say it was negative. A day or so after that i got my period which was very heavy and i had a lot of clots. Clots are not normal for me because i have a blood condition where my blood does not clot properly. So, i believe i had a very early miscarriage. I can not believe how many women are getting pregnant on it since Mirena claims to be 99.9% effective!

hi evrybody. i noticed there are acouple of threads here dealing with te same issue - iud pregnancies. i've had an iud for over three years (nearly four) - copper non-hormones. i was warned that it would cause heavier and irregular bleeding for several months at first, which it did. i thought that it was 99.9% effective at preventing pregnancy, but - surprise surprise - it isn't. the info'sheet i found online for professionals list the risk for pregancy as 1.26 per 100 women per year - more than 10 times the 0.01% i had thought. right now i'm almost a week late (and i'm quite regular lately - every 27-29 days). i saw a gyn and she didn't find anything, but couldn't rule out pregnancy on exam. she also told me that iud is only 96-97% effective. even the better number from the info sheet was shocking, but that blew me away! if it is 1.26% ineffective that means in 5 yrs of use, there's a 1 in 16 chance of a woman getting pregnant (maybe less if the risk falls after the first year), and about half of those pregnancies miscarry. i can't believe that i chose a contraception that gave me a 1 in 16 chance of pregnancy - and all pregnancy with iud is high risk! i did one hpt - neg, but i'm waiting a few day to try it again. does anyone have any experience with false-neg results? how long before the pregnancy was confirmed? i would really appreciate hearing from anyone who could tell me. and all you guys who have symptoms that might be pregnancy - you shouldn't wait too long to get an examination to rule out ectopic. good health to all of you.

Hey Batya,My name is Ashley it takes me six weeks to get a positive, so it can take a long time. I have the mirena and I'm 10 days late. I have been waking up nauseas, peeing alot, and I am really tired. Last night I started the whole emotional thing. Am I pregnant I have 2 already? I have the mirena in.

Batya - June 5

thanks Ashley. when you found out you were pregnant were you 6 wks late or 6 wks pregnant? did you find out from hpt, blood test, or US? i hope evrything works out for you. is your Mirena the type with hormones? how long have you had it in?i wanted to let evryone know: i went to the dr yesterday, did an US and a blood test - US showed iud still in place, even though i don't feel strings, and the blood test came back hcg<2 (no pregnancy) and the gyn exam said everything looked normal. so it looks like just a missed period (which still seems strange to me under the circ_mstances). so i'm much more relaxed now and just waiting to see if i get my next period. if not - back to the dr...

I had my paraguard put in after the birth of my daughter. I may have had a period at the end of April but now I haven't had one since then. I've taken a pg test right around the time my periodwould have been due but got a negative. I'm not b___stfeeding so my period should have returned by now. My daughter is 4 months old. I can't fathom having them a year apart! I also can't feel my strings, I'm crampy and tired. I agree that maybe saying its 99% effective is stretching it a bit far.

LisaP - June 23

Well, I am pregnant again. I am afraid that it will end in a miscarriage again. If the tests keep getting darker I will go to my OB/GYN again.
