I have an IUD. I've been reading alot about women getting pregnant with them in. I haven't had a period in forever. I got mine in aug. of 2005 - I went to the dr bc I couldn't find my strings and was feeling pregnant she told me that she found the string and I felt pregnant because my ovaries were starting to work again. Well I haven't felt my string since the spring and always feel pregnant. My dr doesn't seem conserned, What should I do?

My stomach is turning reading all the stories....I have been regular since I got my peroid back after my son and now I am 20 days late I took 2 tests 5 days apart and they were both negative but a week later I am sick, tired and I am tender where you would get menstral cramps(has anyone else experinced the tender ness?) so I go on Monday to get blood work done to find out once and for all..my husband and I did not want anymore kids we have a 3 year old girl and an 11 month old son,but like so many others I think I am...I agree that the IUD can not be 99% if there are so many in this situation.GOOD LUCK TO ALL

Hi! Just wanted to add my story. I am 37 and have 3 beautiful girls. I had the Paraguard inserted in July 06 and after having some stabbing pains on my right side while nursing my baby, I went to the Urgent Care. They thought it was a UTI, but I asked them to check for pregnancy because I was scared of having an ectopic and sure enough, I was 8 1/2 weeks pregnant with a healthy fetus in the right spot. My OB says that the IUD is embedded in the wall of my uterus and should not interefere with baby at all. He feears that removing it is dangerous to baby and me. Baby because of the chance of miscarriage and me because the location is so deep there is the risk of perforating my uterus! I saw a Perinatologist and heard all the stats about removing it giving the baby the best chance, but could not find a Dr. willing to attempt removal given the placement. So I am now 13 weeks and hoping all goes well. I see the OB tomorrow. I will keep you all posted.

Hi ladies. My husband actually found this site for me. He has been concerned about me getting the IUD from the beginning. After reading what some of you have written I have decided to take mine out. I have only had mine for 6 wks but haven't stopped bleading since I got it. I actually bled more with the IUD than after child birth. My ovaries hurt most of the time and it hurts to sit down sometimes. My newest child is only 12 wks old and I am b___stfeeding. Does anyone know what the chances are of getting pregnant while using the IUD and BF? Like most women I didn't understand how the IUD works. It makes me sick to think that I could be killing a baby every month. I will be having mine removed ASAP. I don't think I can stand the mental torment of wondering every month if I'm pregnant. My husband would start buying HPT's from Costco in bulk.

ok....i am 47 years young....with the copper 7 IUD in place (i can feel the string) for about 20 years...I think i am pregnant...i havent had a period for almost 3 months....i am afraid to confirm the pregnancy since I am not sure how to preceed......I can only say that I know the device is in place and this feels like a normal pregnancy...not sure what to do....does anyone have a copper7 experience....
.my gut is telling me that since the cervex needs to be bopen (normally during mentrual bleeding) any attempt to get it out without cervical dialation could cause trauma to the embryo.....i dont want to take that risk....i also fear hemeraging....nah...i think i will just let nature take it's course

I would highly recommend seeing a doctor. sometimes it's better to take it out and sometimes it's better to leave it in. it depends on where the iud is placed. the dr. will want to do an ultrasound and other tests to make sure everything is o.k. for you and baby. good luck. I'm pregnant with iud too.

Just wanted to share... My sister in-law also got pregnant and had a IUD in. They had to leave it in her and said that the baby most likely would not survive past the 5th month. I am happy to say that he was just born 3days ago. He was 9lbs 7oz and 19 inches. Very healthy and happy!

I know how you are feeling I got the shock of the year last week when I went to the OBGYN after being in bed with I thought was the flu and was even admitted into the hospital for dehydration with my General Practicioner. He did all kinds of bllod tests and could not find anything wrong with me. He did not do a pregancy test because I told him I had been bleeding and I had an IUD in place and the OBGYN had checked it in December and everything was great. Well after 3 weeks of extreme nausea my OBGYN saw me and I am 9 weeks along. She won't remove the IUD because of the risk of Miscarriage. The baby has a strong heartbeat and so far is healthy. I am still getting over the shock I already have 2 children and did not want anymore but I guess the Lord has other plans. I know it will work out.

Hi everyone.. I was so happy to stumble upon this board , lately I think I am going crazy lol. I have had mirena IUD in since Sept 02 , the first 2-3 months almost constant spotting but I now have a normal cycle every 28 days or so 1-3 days of light spotting. My last period was on March 27th and starting on April 17 my b___st started getting a little sore and now are very sore swollen, I am tired, moody etc.. I never ever get sore b___st before or anytime around or during my period since mirena has be inserted. I thought it's especially weird since its over 10days before my period is due. I called my midwife and she finds it very unlikely and rare that I would be pregnant but it seems more common than the doctors think. I took at test this am it came back negative just wondering if it is to early to test that is why I got a negative result . I have to admit I don't check my string myself only at my yearly so I decided to check and I can't feel or find anything. Maybe I am doing it wrong. Needless to say I am going to doctors tomorrow to get check to make sure its in place and I guess I will wait and see if I get my period. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are... I was suppose to have IUD replaced in August with new one and after this, and then reading board I think I am going to have to reconsider it!

I posted this on the IUD Pregnancy board but I thought it would go good here too: I have been following the posts here since the beginning of March. I got the IUD in July of 04....I think I had a lot of cramping and pain in the first few months but then got better so I decided to keep it in. I had my period up until the end of last year and didn't mind when they tapered off. Well....at the end of March I started having all the signs of pregnancy...hungry but nauseus, headaches, cramping but no period....emotional....everything. I called my gyn. and they didn't even act like they cared. I kept checking the strings to see if they were getting shorter or longer and after about a week of extreme symptoms and the doctors not really listening to me I tugged on the strings because they were really low and the IUD came out...no problem, no pain, no bleeding...nothing. So, I called the gyn. and took it in. They didn't even examine me. Since then I have tested negative to pregnancy tests but still have cramping without a period, nausea, tired all the time and even my b___sts have started leaking a little milk! My gen. dr. ordered an MRI to see it it was a tumor letting out hormones but it wasn't. I don't know what to think. The gyn. did give me the NuvaRing to try when I took the IUD in to them a month ago but I didn't put it in right away b/c I didn't know if I should add any more hormones to this if it is hormones causing all this or if I should put it in if I end up really being pregnant. My gen. dr. told me 2 days ago to go ahead and use the Nuvaring and it should bring on my period in 3 weeks. ARG! I feel like I'm going crazy. I know it's not phantom pregnancy b/c the symptoms started while I had an IUD and wasn't even THINKING about getting pregnant. I just don't understand how it's been out for almost a month and I'm STILL having symptoms......at least I don't feel alone. I just wanted to share in case anyone else feels alone or in case anyone else has some answers. Thanks

I also have the Mirena in place. I have three children, the youngest is 11 months. For the past two weeks I have had nasal stuffiness, frequent bathroom trips and acne along with some of the other symptoms mentioned in previous posts. I have have taken two tests (negative) but am still feeling pregnant. The same thing happened when I found out I was pregnant with my youngest; but I took 5 HPT's and a blood test - all negative! well I have an 11 month old with proof that I was pregnant. So I am going next wednesday to my OB to have this Mirena removed.

I to am pregnant with the IUD. I was 6 weeks along when I figured it out. I DID NOT was more children. I have an eating dissorter and get depression realy bad for several months after my last two children were born. My doctor told me he would be shocked if I got pregnant. Hes still shocked, Im 33 weeks now. After talking to a couple nurses, I found it is very commen to get pregnant with an IUD. And to answer your question, the IUD should come out, but it would depend on the cercomstances. Get a second opinion! I had to change doctors to have a V-back and that was their biggest concern, they wanted to make sure the Ius was out. Miscarriage is always a possability. So is the risk of the IUD puncturing important parts. I was actually bleeding internally from the IUD. Doc thought I would miscarry. Im nervouse for family and friends. I recomended this product and several has the IUD implanted. Hope better luck for them.
