abdonminal hernia means the baby's bowel is out of its body (its stomach is open). I will have c-section and get the surgery right away for the baby. Im at 17 weeks now. Im really scared about the babys surgery. Anyone is familiar with abdonminal hernia (gastroschisis)? I just need someone to talk to. Thanks.

The doc tucks the bowel ever so gently back inside the abdomen, st_tches the stomach muscles together so they don't separate again, and then stiches the skin together. On a scale from 1 to 10 of difficult surgeries, this is probably going to be a 3 if you have a skilled surgeon. Of course, it depends on the severity of the hernia, your child's health at time of delivery, etc. It's normal to be apprehensive about surgery for your child. I get nervous when my daughter has to have blood drawn!!! The truth is that this is a problem that is going to be very detrimental to your child's life if it doesn't get fixed, so fixing it is the best thing, and very much worth all of the risk. You are being a good mom by doing it. There are thousands of babies born with hernias each year, and most of them corrected by surgery. Hang in there. Do not stress out because if you are stressed out, so is your baby. Relax, take some YOU time, and pamper yourself.
