I found out today that I need to have a myeo and I am freaking out, I have a 7x6x4cm in my uterine cavity and then others within the muscle. Im so nervous that i wont be able to have a baby. Acinom, I say you go for it if you are ready to be a single parent. I would. How was your surgery? did you have your ob/gyn do it or did you find a specialist? Im not sure how to go about finding the right dr. I dont think I will have my Dr do it because I want someone who does it all the time and it comes second nature to them.

Hi ladies. This is my first time every participating in a blog. After reading so many of the "stories" it made me feel supported and I wanted to share mine. Im a psychologist and have always prided myself on being strong and with plenty of positive coping skills. Howeverm the most devastating experience of my life happened in November 2008. At 22 weeks pregnant my water broke while I was at work (11/19), I was hospitilized and remained on bed rest. on 11/28 at 12:09 am, my beautiful and precious son, Ethan was born...he survived for 13 hours despite medical intervention. My husband and I were DEVASTATED....it was the greatest pain I had and continue to experience in my life! Its hard to even capture in words the longing I have for my son, so I will not even try to do so. My doc knew I had fibroids, but there was no determination of how it would affect my pregnancy...nevertheless, two of the fibroids grew extremely large (one of which was the size of a grapefuit). I am now planning to have the myomectomy done next Thursday. I have mixed feelings, but know that it is the only way to possibly move forward with getting pregnant again and having a healthy baby (yes-I am claiming it). Sooo, my journey begins. My doc/surgeon wants me to wait 6 months post surgery in order to fully heal. In the meantime, I plan on working from home and doing several small "projects" that I have put off. Ladies-I appreciate the inspiration from you. Noone really understands what we have been through....empathy vs. sympathy. I am trying to stay positive and optimistic, while I am nervous at the same time. Prayer helps, time heals, and love endures.

Wow, my heart goes out to all of you that have gone through such heartbreak. I just had myomectomy 2 weeks ago on September 28, 2009. I am 39 years old, and i just got married a year ago. To add to my complications, my husband and I are separated by an ocean because of visa problems, he can't be here in U.S. for a while, so we spent a few weeks together every 3 months for about 2 weeks, and will probably move to his country after i have healed, hopefully by this winter. (Background info: I had a miscarriage 9 years ago when i was 30, but not due to fibroids.) My husband and i definitely want kids, so i decided to have the 1 grapefruit-sized fibroid removed, because of failed attempts and also symptoms becoming unbearable. We want to start trying to conceive ASAP, which i understand is 2 months after myomectomy surgery. We will try on my next visit, God willing, but i understand it may take longer than that, but i have a extremely tight window because i'm 39 and may need to move back to my husband's country to steadily try. I have a good number of eggs left and all my hormone levels are within range as far as fertility is concerned. I wanted to hear any follow-up stories on your outcomes regarding getting pregnant AFTER your myomectomy. Sunshine11, you had your surgery in June, any luck yet? It doesn't seem like this thread is very active anymore. I am searching for hope in anyone with similar situation to mine... Best of luck to you all!

Hi Ladies,
I have not visited this site in a very long time (about 1.5 years) and haven't received any update emails from here since then either. Then today I received an email with Elizabeth's post and felt I had to come back on and post. At 42 I had a myomectomy in Dec. 2006 (six removed). Exactly 2 months later I started cycling for IVF, and was successful. We just celebrated by twin sons' birthdays on September 28, 2009.
Elizabeth, I am happy to not only tell you of a positive outcome, but the irony (and hopefully good luck) of your myomectomy date.
I wish you all the best of luck.

Hi Everyone,
I also have not been on in over a year, but when I got an email with Elizabeth's post, I wanted to log on and share my story.
I was diagnosed with fibroids about 5 years ago when I had an ovarian cyst removed. At the time, my doctor told me not to worry about them, that no treatment was needed. When I got pregnant at 35 (almost 36) my fibroids ballooned and I had a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks.
My doctor recommended a myomectomy. I had to wait 3 months for my hormone levels to stabilize before the surgery. After removing 11 fibroids, my doctor told me I should wait three months before trying to conceive.
I got my periods back immediately after the surgery and during my 2nd cycle I ovulated at 2 1/2 months post-op. We decided we'd rather TTC then instead of waiting until 3 1/2 months. I got pregnant on the first try post surgery!
My pregnancy was without complications, although some new fibroids did develop. I was terrified the whole time. My daughter was born on October 3, 2008 -- one month after my 37th birthday. She is now a beautiful, happy, healthy 1 year old.
I just had an ultrasound to check up on the current state of my fibroids because we're getting ready to TTC again.
There is hope after a myomectomy and I wish all of you ladies the very best of luck! God bless!

hi guys
i thought i would share my experience from the UK. I am currently recouperating from a myo, ive had 6 fibroids removed. I have never been pregnant (we have been trying for a number of years) due to the position of the fibroids (blocking the tubes). I also have endometriosis, adenomyosis (on my left tube) and pcos.
I have been told i do have my right tube and that the tube should work. im trying to be positive and its good to hear that people have become pregnant after a myo. He has given me clomid to take which will probably make the fibroids grow again but i understand its a bit of a race against time.
I have been told by my surgeon that we can try after my first period - which is different from what you guys get told. Ive also been told that should i get pregnant that i do not necessarily have to have a c-section.
Keep positive and keep trying :)

Hello Ladies,
I have read all of your post and I am truly inspired. I recently had a myomectomy September 2, 2009. I found out that the fibroid needed to be removed when I started to experience pain in my stomach. I was told 2 years prior that I had fibroids but was also told not worry about them. My husband and I were not trying to get pregnant but now that I know they can come back we are going to start trying 6 months after the surgery. Which will be in april. Having the surgery was not easy and I was a wreck when I found out what the details of the surgery were. I am glad to say that I am healing and doing a lot better now that the surgery is over. I pray that I will not have any problems when I start trying to concieve. I hope we can get this board up and running again because I bet there are a lot more women out there that can benifit from all the information that you girls have to offer.

Hello, in 2000 I had a myomectomy to remove a large cluster of fibroids. One year later I discoved they returned and I have been monitoring them through U/S ever since. I am 36 yrs old, no children and I have now had 3 consecutive miscarriages. I do not know why I have miscarried but I will be seing a specialist soon. I fear I may need to have another myomectomy to remove the fibroids which are scattered around my uterus, 3 are outside and 1 is in the inner lining of the uterus. Has anyone ever had two sugeries and gone on to have a successful pregnany?

Hi ladies... Im 27. I had my first miscarriage when I was 5 weeks and 4 days. Had just gotten to know that I was pregnant and went into a miscarriage right after. Was clueless and blamed myself for a Long while for all the travel and partying. I was 25years old when this happened. It was detected that I have 3 fibroids all outside the uterus. just one at the utero cervical junction. I planned a pregnancy soon after as all the surgeons suggested I try a normal pregnancy. I got pregnant for a second time in November 09 Well all went well till the 23rd week.. when I started with severe cramps and lower abdominal pain... apparently something called 'Reds degeneration'. I was put on complete bed rest with a 'head low position'.
on the 26th of March 09 I was admitted with severe bleeding...my Doc st_tched the cervix to prolong the pregnancy... however after all that pain and 15 days in the hospital... I delivered a beautiful healthy baby boy- "James" on the 5th April 09 - At 670 gms he could not make it. I got a Myomectomy done- an open surgery after 4 menstrual cycles- the fibroid was 700 gms and 15 cms diameter in the shrunken state...IMAGINE
Its 6 months hence and we are now trying to conceive. Fear and anxiety are always around but Im glad I was able to vent this all out...Im fit again with yoga and gym workouts.
You are all in my prayers. Hope we can stay in touch to share better news as it comes along.
Love

Hello Ladies,
I hope all is well. There is so much catching up to do. I am eager to get to know everyone and read your stories. My situation may seem very premature but I am extremely knew to this journey and I feel I need the support of women in my situation.
I was diagnosed with fibroids in Dec 09. I am recently divorced 31 and I wanted to get an idea of where I was with regards to fertility (things you start to think of I guess once you are over 30). I went to see a new OB/GYN, and I did begin to experience heavier bleeding but didn't think to much of it. She advised that I should establish a baseline and have an ultrasound. That is when we discovered the 4 beautiful fibroids (the largest 4.9cm). She said that I should have a follow-up sonogram in 6 months to determine growth rate and she advise that a year before I plan to have children I should have surgerty to remove them and I will be fine. I did not stress this diagnosis AT ALL.
Well this past Monday I had the scare of my life. I was on an Amtrak train headed to Upstate NY. I went to the bathroom because I felt my flow coming. Ladies what I saw scared me to death. A CLOT THE SIZE OF HALF A HUMAN LIVER DROP FROM INSIDE OF ME!!!! I NEVER saw such a thing in my life. I thought I was bleeding to death. There was blood everywhere. I am in the middle of I don't even know where at that point. I don't want to get into the disaster of a morning that was because I am sure so many of you can relate. Thankfully I had my luggage changed my clothes and headed back to the city. So that is when the reality of what I had hit me. Now I am doing EVERYTHING in my to learn of ways to shrink these things (if possible) and just be more aware of my body. It seems like surgery may ultimately be where I am headed in the future (as per my doctor). I just want to learn how many woman have struggled with getting pregnant post surgery. Again, I am so new to this.
I am sad...but determined and hopeful!
Thank you ladies.

you are right to respond to this issue swiftly. Empower yourself by gathering information and forget about they myth of not questioning Doctors. If they cant take it or forbe you off, look for another Doctor. Always get a second opinion, one from a Gynae specialist, one from a fertility specialist. At the age of 23, I was diagnosed with fibroids during a visit to the Emergency hospital due to stabbing abdominal pain. I was given pain killers and sent home. The fibroids were the size of tangerines at this stage. I have had this type of sudden pain in the past (about 18 years old), was once diagnosed with appendicitis, did the operation but the sac was empty. My abdoment continued to grow large to the extent that friends told each other that I was expecting. I continued to go to Hospital and was told the general advice is to do nothing since it was not causing me any pain (early 90s). By the time I was 27 years old, it had compromised my left kidney, had urological problems with bladder. At this point it was agreed to be a problem and the solution was a hystorectomy. it is now 40 weeks pregnancy size. I fought hard not to sign for an hystorectomy, I had a myomectomy, cut accross my navel as it was too big for a bikini line cut. It weighed in at 4lbs. I had a baby girl at the age of 36 by which time the fibroids had grown back. It was a very trying pregnancy, the fibroids doubled in size to 8cm by delivery. I was on morphine pain killers towards the end of the pregnancy. I had an emergency c-section at 35 weeks. I am forever greatful to God for taking me through this journey. I went through various emotions, anger, fear, depression, post partum depression, post traumatic stress disorder for over 2 years. Through it all, my conclusion is that the Doctors dont know it all, sometimes they only have a piece of the puzzle.
I am now going through a second myomectomy as it is affecting my quality of life plus effect of extensive scarred tissue. I have travelled accross continents to see specialists, had various laparoscopies, currently completed a 3 month dose to shrink the fibroids in preparation for a second myomectomy. Be bold and Strong, put on a fight if you need to. Sorry about the length, this is a short version. Anyone out there getting ready for a second myomectomy at over 40 years old?
He will see me through again!

Hello Ladies!
I was diagnosed with my fibroids at 31. I had cla__sic symptoms yet the doctors told me it was a non issue because most women had them. well little did I know they grew and then began to degenerate. As you all know horrible pain. I researched many doctors but only one set my life on easy street. His name is Dr. Stanley West. He is in NYC. Not only did he perform my myomectomy but he guranteed that he would not give me a hysterectomy in writing.
He told me to get OFF the Lupron. (Meds that shrink the fibroids) because although they shrink them they cause the fibroids to turn into jelly thus making it much more difficult to removed all of it. Plus the side effect stinks.
I had my myomectomy 2/12/09. I'm currently pregnant with my first child. ( We waited a bit :-) Praying all goes well as I'm very early but atleast I have a chance we as before it looked grim.
Good luck and blessing to you all!
Oh check out a book called The Hysterectomy Hoax. It's a great read!
