Progesterone Dropping

Hi Daniella! I am not with a high risk dr. but because of my age and prior experience, they began testing both. My first pregnancy was slightly over a year and a half ago and what happened there was that everything was fne and then my progesterone level dropped and then my hcg level started to go down and I miscarried naturally in my 9th week (from last period). I go back in Monday morning. I am 5 1/2 weeks from my last period- I know I conceived July 3 or 4. He sees absolutely nothing with the v____al ultrasound- no sac- no nothing. He said the reson he could be seeing nothing is because it is so early or because it may be etopic. If my hcg levels plateau or don't go up by Monday then we know that I will miscarry and have a heavy period. I was devastated and came home and found the group here and am just praying that ti is too early and that my hcg levels go up. I only found out a week ago that I was pregnant and couldn't believe it! My husband and I had just finished going through all the blood work and testing (hsg) with another dr for fertility and luckily everything came out normal for both of us- and we decided to have some fun before deciding what to do and I was just so thrilled to find myself pregnant naturally! You guys have given us some hope! Thank you!

Hey Daniella! Thank you for answering! I am 5 1/2 weeks from my last period (June 22). I was undergoing tests with a fertility dr at the beginning of July (mostly blood work and an hsg)- everything turned out to be normal and my husband and I decided to take it easy before making any decisions. It seems that I coneived July 3 or July 4. I was thrilled to have conceived naturally! My last pregnancy was over a year and a half ago and what happened was that my blood work showed low pregesterone and then my hcg levels dropped and I miscarried in week 9. So I found out I was pregnant a week ago and they did blood work. My progesterne was at 25- by Wednesday it came down to 16 and Thursday (the next day) it was at 11.6. My hcg levels continue to rise, but not strongly- they are almost doubling every 48 hours.Because of my history and because of my age- they check everything. The dr put me on the progesteronee gel every night. I go back in on Monday. So when he saw nothing- he said he couldn't see anything- no sac, anything! He said it could be because I am so early or the etopic thing. I guess I will know on Monday because if the hcg levels plateau then I guess we will know what happens.

Natalie- what has your HCG levels been??

Natalie - July 31

The hcg levels haven't been the greatest. I will double check the numbers again tomorrow. When the nurse called on Thursday she said that last Friday they were at 2 and change and then on Wednesday had gone up to 5 and change. Thursday's blood test had only shown an increase of about almost 20% in 24 hours. My understanding is that the hcg levels should double every 48 hours. Mine are not really doing that. Last pregnancy hcg levels would go up but not double and then they just leveled off while the progesterone steadily fell- even with the suppositories. I know everybody's numbers are different and there seems to be a wide range to fall into- but still it is not the greatest sign. The dr said he was not happy with my numbers- I think he would have liked to have a stronger hcg level.

Natalie, did you say your HCG was at 2 and then 5? Anything under 5 isn't even considered pregnant. Or were you thinking of some other numbers. Or do you mean 2000 and 5000. Sorry, just kinda confused on what you meant when you say 2 and change and 5 and change

Daniella, I had a v____al ultrasound @ 6 weeks. My levels with the mc were only 7...my levels before sup with the last one were 12 and this one were 18. I got tested at 7 weeks and they were 28.4 so they stopped testing. However, I take (3) 100 pills and (1) 100 supp every day.

Rachelle- That is good to hear. And at 12 weeks you wont have to worry about it anymore, for the baby will make it on its own. My progesterone level was 8.4 when I was around 8 weeks preg. from conceived. 10 from LMP. So... they put me on supplements (after many attempts on getting them to test me and finally did after 2 weeks) and my levels only increased to 11.4 about 4 days after taking the supplements. But, the next day the fetus heartbeat had stopped and the following day I had a D&C (that was 2 weeks ago)... So, this was a total learning experience for me. I sometimes wonder, what if I just kept on the doctors until they finally tested me and took the supplements 2 weeks earlier, would I have a chance. But... no point in looking back, yet just more knowledge for the future. I now know what I need. How far are you now??

Hi! This is my first pregnancy, I am about 7 weeks now, and I started spotting about 4 days ago (brownish blood). I went to the doctor where they ran blood work and did an ultra sound. The ultrasound revealed everything was fine-the baby's measurements and heartbeat indicated all was well. So the doctor couldn't figure out why I was spotting. As it turns out, my blood work showed my progesterone levels were low although the nurse didn't tell me the number. I am supposed to start on a progesterone v____al cream? She didn't mention suppositories. Has anyone ever heard of this cream or know of someone who has used it before? I'm hoping this is the reason for the spotting and will get my levels up. If anyone out there has experienced this combination of spotting and low progesterone, please let me know. Thank you!!!

Rosie- The v____al cream or gel -IS- the "suppositories." I was on Crinone 8% (progesterone gel). My best advice is to do a google search online and search the name brand, etc., of the cream or gel your doctor put you on. Just so you have more information on that. I was also told that its better than the pill because it goes straight up to your uterus. What kind did she prescribe you?? Also, find out what your exact level of progesterone is. The nurse cannot withhold that information from you.

yes! my daughter is currently 11 wks pregnant after 3 previous miscarriages. Test after test ,no answers. Finally found a dr.who say low progestrone .She found out she was pregnant and went right on them.We know have a heartbeat at 10 wks and a ultra sound picture of our little peanut. I would advise anyone to go on progestrone if advised as I'm sure it has helped my grandchild stay where the little one needs to be.I will breathe easier when we're past first trimester but am confident all will be well now. Thanks so much for your site as it really helped us to be able to inform her new .Dr. as he of course said it would not help if it was not meant to be.Hate that !We stood our ground and insisted and he said couldn't hurt and now she is 11 wks.

Daniella, I am 10 weeks now. I still worry, but it is in God's hands. The thing that made me feel most comfortable was when my doctor told me that we have no way of knowing exactly why I misscarried, but we know that you have low levels so we will fix what we know is wrong.
