Progesterone Dropping

And yea, L... by finding a doctor that will help you. That's pretty much it. But your body wont be in any harm if you do take progesterone. So, would it really hurt to do so if recommended by your doctor? I see no problems in giving it a chance if your levels are low. My doctor told me that taking progesterone wont hurt because I have a history of it being low pretty much my whole life. Its not just going to go dramatically up when I am pregnant if I'm having trouble producing it. Now, according to the main question as this article started with (with Betty) if your progesterone levels go down, after being high..., then ONCE AGAIN, it will not hurt to take progesterone supplements. If your body is going to have a miscarriage regardless then you know that you did whatever you could.

What I was trying to explain was that there are 2 different theories on progesterone. I am not trying to upset anyone, especially someone who went through a miscarriage, and yes I did have one as well, so I know the pain too well. Basically, I am trying to comfort those who did not take progesterone and now think that because of it, they did not "save" their baby. That's pretty harsh to read as well, don't you think? I think we put a lot of pressure and guilt on ourselves when we miscarry and think of what we could have done differently to prevent it. I saw two different doctors who had conflicting beliefs on miscarriages and the link with progesterone. Since I had a baby with no complications at all, one doctor did not think that progesterone was the cause, but rather a symptom of something not right. I hope I cleared this up and was able to explain what I didn't make clear in my first post. I don't know what I will do next time I get pregnant, take progesterone or not if my levels are low. I just hope I don't have to face this again. My other concern that was b__wn off by the doctor that prescribed Crinone 8% was the warnings that came in the package. That really freaked me out! Does anyone have any information on that?

Daniella - July 19

d- what warnings are you worried about? They had me on crinone 8% also, and I didn't have any problems. Also, in your case maybe it wasn't a progesterone problem if you had a healthy baby without any problems. In my case and many others, I know that I do have a problem with progesterone. And I will with every pregnancy. The only thing I could do is educate myself and take the supplements for I have no chance without that. Sad to say, but that's just my body. Some womans levels are low because of other problems, where mine will always be low because my body doesn't produce it well. The good news is the doctor said that if I get on the supplements as soon as I find out I'm pregnant the next time, I should have no problems having a good pregnancy. That gives me hope!

hello everyone, I'm 44 and i just had my 1st u/s today (6 weeks) and my doc gave me progesterone capsules to insert so I was curious. Your posts have given me a lot of support (had a m/c 2.5 years ago). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you all and myself! Good luck!!!!

I have only posted here one time, but I love to read these and I come back once a week. It gives me such support. In my case I am positive that it works! (Maybe it is all in my head, but whatever works, right??) 3 years ago I had a misscarriage and we had no idea whey. I got pregnant again (my little one turned 1 in March) and they put me on the supp at night and I checked my levels every week. They then added 3 pills to take during the day. Everything went well. I am pregant again now 8 weeks and my levels were low again. They put me on the supp 2 weeks ago and they added the 3 pills per day again today. My doctor's opinion on it is that in most cases you are not able to tell why a women misscarries, but you might as well do something that is not harmful and helps. So, I agree with him 100%. I did not do it the first time and it ended in mc. I did it the second time and it ended in a baby; so I am doing it this time to hopefully come up with the same ending as the last time. I am sure there are other reasons why some women mc; but if there is a chance to prevent it I am all for it. I know what d is saying; and I don't think people blame themselves for not taking progesterone, most of us have never heard of it until a friend or the doctor tells us. There may not be proof that they preven misscarriage; but I think there is proof that they work from all these women that have experienced it. I hope that this is the reason that all of us mc and we have found the cure to have a healthy, happy baby! Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Rachelle- Did you have an ultrasound for this pregnancy yet? I am so excited for you!! I'm sure everything will be fine. Just try not to stress so much. At least you are more knowledged this time around. Keep us posted on the happenings of this little one. ;) Also, what were your progesterone levels on your first m/c, then your last preg. and now this one, before you supplemented?

stacey - July 25

could u be pregant if ur baby is 4 weeks is it to early to tell

Dani - July 28

Stacey-Do you mean you have 4 week old infant and you think you are pregnant again?

Sonya - July 29

hi, I just wanted to give some hope. I had another u/s , 11 wks 2 days , and everything looks Great !! We could see the arms and legs moving around , strong heart 174, and measuring only 3 days off. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen ! My progesterone has been low , 5.4 last time but I'm still doing 8% every night. One more week and I'm done. This has been very difficult but I feel good about things now. I hope this helps everyone, there is hope even if your levels are low.

Daniella - July 29

Sonya- thats great!!! Last time you wrote, you were 10 weeks. I figured that right there was hope enough because at 12 weeks the progesterone level you produce doesn't matter anymore. Did they retest your progesterone level after you started supplementing when it was 5.4? I guess they say that even if you supplement and the blood work doesn't come back much higher, you cant really go by that because the supplements go straight to your uterus (if being the v____al supplements) so, it wouldn't be too detectable in the blood!? But, its great that everything is going as should. :)

Sonya - July 29

Thanks ! They stopped testing my prog. they thought it was stress for me and there wasn't anything we could do differently. The supp. are v____al so I'm not sure. My last preg. I took the same thing and it went up in the b/w that's one reason it has been so stressful this time. We feel very confident now , we told our other children last night. I'm really trying not to worry. My last mc was at 12 wks. but the baby had stopped developing @ 8 wks. Seeing the baby moving all around was such relief.

Daniella - July 29

Yeah, you can miscarry at 12 weeks. But you usually have a feeling earlier on. Just like you knew the baby stopped developing at 8 weeks. I just had a D&C a week and a half ago. I should have been over 9 weeks and everything but the fetus was developing after about 6 weeks. So, I had a feeling earlier on. The only thing they knew for sure is that my progesterone was only a 8.4. They didn't test it again because the doctor said that it wouldn't really go up much if taken v____al supplements, yet not to worry, because it still works. You just can't determine the level of it through blood, but it works in the uterus. Anyhow.... yeah, no need for you to stress out on that. Its obvious that your little one is already active. ;) Just keep posted on your next visit. Are you going to find out the s_x before he or she is born? Oh, and I am with you on the waiting to tell family, etc. My husband and I agree that the next pregnancy, we aren't telling until we are around 12 weeks. How many other children do you have? was your last m/c the only one?

Natalie - July 29

Hi! I am 5 1./2 weeks and in the past week my progesterone has dropped from 25 to 11.2. My hcg is going up but not as much as the dr would like to see. I had an ultra sound this morning and he sees nothing. He mentioned that it may be he can't see anything because it is too early or because I may be having an etopic pregnancy. He put me on progesterone suppositories to start today. I have had one prior miscarriage where the progesterone dropped and then the hcg levels dropped too. I am 38 years old and so worried to lose this baby! Has this happened to anyone else?

Daniella - July 29

Natalie- A few questions... When the dr. says he sees nothing, does he mean, he sees nothing in the uterus at all, or that he doesn't see a fetal pole, yolk sac, etc. in the uterus but sees implantation there? Also, when you say that your 5 1/2 weeks, is that from the first day of your last period or from when you conceived? Most doctors don't test your progesterone (only your HCG, and some don't even do that unless they feel something is wrong or you ask), so why did they test your level? Are you with a high risk doctor? I had a previous ectopic, 2 years ago, before this past m/c 2 weeks ago. If they suspect its an ectopic, they should be doing further investigation because that isn't something to brush off. Does he say that you may have m/c and thats why nothings showing up and your levels are dropping?

Natalie - July 30

Hi Daniella! I am not with a high risk dr. but because of my age and prior experience, they began testing both. My first pregnancy was slightly over a year and a half ago and what happened there was that everything was fne and then my progesterone level dropped and then my hcg level started to go down and I miscarried naturally in my 9th week (from last period). I go back in Monday morning. I am 5 1/2 weeks from my last period- I know I conceived July 3 or 4. He sees absolutely nothing with the v____al ultrasound- no sac- no nothing. He said the reson he could be seeing nothing is because it is so early or because it may be etopic. If my hcg levels plateau or don't go up by Monday then we know that I will miscarry and have a heavy period. I was devastated and came home and found the group here and am just praying that ti is too early and that my hcg levels go up. I only found out a week ago that I was pregnant and couldn't believe it! My husband and I had just finished going through all the blood work and testing (hsg) with another dr for fertility and luckily everything came out normal for both of us- and we decided to have some fun before deciding what to do and I was just so thrilled to find myself pregnant naturally! You guys have given us some hope! Thank you!
