Progesterone Level

Hi everyone, I had low progesterone levels (8) at five weeks with my first baby, so they a__sumed luteal phase defect. I went on 100 mg of Prometrium 4 x a day. This dose seems high, but the body does not synthesize the hormone as well when you digest it vs. using the v____al cream. Now I am 5 weeks pregnant with baby #2, and I've been started on the progesterone 4 x a day again. We are waiting for the results of the blood test to see how low the progesterone was. I was also crampy all week, but so far no spotting! Best wishes to all!

Hello again everybody. I recently had a misscarriage(#2) and am trying to get pregnant again. I have been on Prometrium since I last ovulated. I have Graves Disease(thyroid disoder) and sometimes it gets too low, thus causing low progesterone levels. I am a little worried today because I spotted a little bit and I really feel pregnant. It is hard to start prometrium before you actually conceive because this hormone gives you almost every symptom of pregnancy. Has anyone else also experienced this. Hopefully if I am pregnant the spotting was just implantation bleeding. Let me know if any of you took prometrium before conceiving and how it made you feel. Thanks and prayers to all!

My doctor placed me on progestorone oral medication so my level would stay normal. I took it during my first and last trimesters to reduce the risk of miscarrriage. And yes, my baby turned out just fine! I'll be praying for you.

Wow I thought that I was all alone in this. These stories have helped me in ways that you will never know! I have have 1 miss and am now 5 weeks 4 days. My prog. level was 14 at 5 weeks and will know the results tomorrow on the second on I was put on oral Prog. 5 days ago 200mg at bedtime(wow it makes you sick). I know just wait and see. I am only 20 and thats young but my husband and want a family. My hcg levels are rising doubling like they should but, I still find myself going to the bathromm 100 times a day to see if I am bleeding! I pray everyday that this will turn out but I sometimes feel like taking extra 200mg pills so that my prog levels will rise. It seems like some of you are on alot more that 200mg.Thanks so much for this site it is a blessing and a place that I can come and cry with people who know what I am going through. Any words of advice please email me curtis01@sisna.com I would love to talk with people who have been or is going trhough this also.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I took a pregnancy test today and it came back positive!! I was sooo happy. Have any of you had a lot of uterine pain, not cramps, but achiness in lower ab area during early pregnancy? It has been so long since my last pregnancy that I can't quite remember how I felt but I do remember having to put heat on my abdomen the first three months. Anyways I will be a neurotic mess of course since I had a misscarriage 2 months ago and of course every little pain is going to make me nervouse but like most of us are doing, we put it in God's hands. Hope all of you are doing well!!!

Hello everyone! My CHEMICAL PREGNANCY has ended and the doctor made sure that I understood that this was not a viable pregnancy (no embryo). I am no longer taking Prometrium. This is a great site. I am going to continue reading your stories, and offer you my support as well. Good luck to all of you! Say a prayer for my husband and I that we may conceive and MAINTAIN the pregnancy. LET'S KEEP LIFTING EACH OTHER UP!

Becky, I am thrilled for you and thank you so much for the response about my HCG level. You got pregnant exactly like I did the 2nd time...right after MC. I had an ultrasound yesterday and am measuring 7 weeks. We got to hear the heartbeat this time and it is between 122-126 beats per minute which I hear is good. Please keep me in your prayers and post everything about your pregnancy as well. Congrats!

Its nice reading these but im also confused. Im 6 wks 4 days pregnant, i got an u/s 2 days ago and was diagnosed with a Subchorionic Hematoma, a blood clot in the uterus, and my progesterone levels came back today, they were 22.3 and was told they were low so im being put on a v____al suppository once a day. Im scared of it causing birth defects and dont know why i even need it when all of your numbers seem much lower? I would appreciate any responses -Heather

My friend recently started taking Progesterone and her doctor told her to take it before she goes to bed at night because it can cause sleepiness/dizziness. So I recommend you try taking yours at night too. She could hardly get any rest in the early part of her pregnancy and now she claims to sleep like a log!:-)

Normal progesterone level at 4 weeks is at least more than 20 ng/mL - if you are in the US! Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and perhaps other countried measure differently - so in those countries you would be looking for a level of 65 nmol/L at 4w. So if Heather (who got a 22 at 6w4d) is not in the US, her number would be low - only 22 nmol/L = 6.91 ng/mL in the US. Hope that helps!

Heather, you really shouldn't worry about birth defects as you are putting something into your body that is normally there. You are just helping to insure that your body mainains the proper amount until your placenta takes over. I took progesterone with my second pregnancy until 12 weeks of gestation and my little boy turned out fine. Just follow Doctor's orders and trust in his advice. Remeber, no two women, nor their pregnancys are alike so although alot of these women may have much lower progesterone levels than you, your Doctor has a reason for you to be on progesterone. The best thing to do to ease your mind is to voice your concern and ask him to explain why you are on it. You will feel much better. Good luck to you!!

I am now in my 6 week and at first had a prog level of 14 @ 5 weeks now I have a prog level of 21 witch is good but I was wondering ... At early preg. my b___sts were really tender now they are really not even sore is this ok or could this be a sign of bad things to come? I have had NO spotting and mild belly pain. I am on 200mg Prog and would also like to know if even though I am on this med. if my level can still go down at times? If anyone could help with these two questions I would be so thankful! Good luck to all of you!!!

I was also but on progesterone oral pill - 200mg. I started last week when my level was just over 11 at 4 weeks. I am nervous because it seems that most of you are on v____al suppositories.....I hope the pill works ok also!

I keep adding my story because I have had success so far. I started oral progesterone at 5 and a half weeks when my progesteron dropped from 21 to 13. I was taking 100mg twice a day and the next week my progesterone went to 16. My dr. then doubled my rx and the following week it was 18. The dr. left my rx as it was and the following week it was 72. Which makes me believe that my own body started to take over. They do not monitor it anymore but as of ten weeks everything is going great. I had an ultrasound and baby was jumping all around. I am now 11w4d and have my next appt on Thursday. Hope this helps you all. Toni- as for your b___st tenderness going away, its never an exact science. Mine went away at 10 wks and I was really worried but everything was okay. On the bad side, the internet does state that if you have a sudden disappearence of all symptoms that could be a bad sign. But like I said every woman is different, mine went away at 10w, you could just be earlier.

Becky, your experience is very similar to mine. I had a missed miscarriage at the end of September. The 12 week scan showed no heartbeat and a 7 week size baby. It was my first pregnancy and to say we were devastated would be an understatement. I had no idea that I had miscarried because I still had all the pregancy symptoms - tiredness, nausea etc - and no miscarriage symptoms other than a tiny amount of brown blood that my midwife a__sured me was normal. Because of my blood type (and the tiny amount of spotting) I was checked by a doctor two days before the ultrasound. The doctor a__sured me my cervix and uterus were consistent with a 12 week pregnancy. We went home elated, certain that we had pa__sed the 12 week milestone. Of course I never thought that miscarriage would happen to me. I am still finding it very hard to deal with. It does not help that I am surrounded by pregnant friends who have not been through a miscarriage experience. Unfortunately many have not been understanding and I am finding some of them very difficult to relate to. You do feel so alone after a miscarriage and I believe sites like this (and support groups) are extremely important in letting people know that you are not alone. After the scan I had a D&C the next day. Luckily I was able to have a general anaesthetic and recovered quickly, although was bleeding for 2.5 weeks and still spotting 6 weeks later. I am now 6 weeks pregnant and almost too afraid to write that in case it is snatched away from me again. This time I am not completely naive about my pregnancy and am researching things and now know there are such things as HCG and progesterone levels that can be measured during the first few months. So far all is good. Again, I hesitate writing that for fear that things change. I can so understand the sentiments of many here who describe how terrifying it is to go to the bathroom in case they have spotting or bleeding. I have become a bathroom fanatic - I am in there every half hour. I worry if I haven't felt nauseous for half a day or if my b___sts don't feel as tender as they used to or if I haven't felt any pain in my uterus for a day or so. It is such a difficult and painful process. I wish everyone on here strength and the best of luck for their pregnancies.
