Skiing And Pregnancy

Hi I did beginners lessons for snowboarding last season and booked to go again on the 25th March. I paid for intermediate lessons before I travelled and sure enough 2 weeks before I was due to go, I found out I was pregnant with my first. I rang my travel insurance and they said I wasnt covered because "it was my own fault". So I settled to confinment in the hotel, but after reading everyones comments I thought I might give it a go. It was the last week of the season and thought the piste wouldnt be crowded. The morning of my first lesson I chickened out. My partner and my brothers who I travelled with were doing beginners lessons, and I felt more comfortable "mastering" what I already knew. I had a fairly hard fall (been getting very tired in afternoons, my legs gave up). After that I was worrying too much and missed my last day and half - I didnt want to have my cake and eat it. I had my first scan today, it was amazing seeing it wriggle about, it's heartbeat. . . Its still not sinking in. I'm 10 weeks, and will have a boarder-baby next season :)

I'm interested to read all your responses! I've been skiing since I was 2 1/2 years old. I'm very comfortable on skis and don't get the "b___terfly" nervous feeling very often. I am very aware of my limits and usually stick below them. I'm getting married in August in Queenstown, New Zealand. My future husband and I both enjoy skiing and we are following our ceremony with two weeks of it! I'm not pregnant, that I know of, but we did have a slip up... today. I know I'm ovulating so the possibility of me being pregnant are very real. I think if I am pregnant I'll still ski. I'll be 12 weeks by then. I was thinking of getting out on the hill early, 9AM, and finishing up around 10:30 then heading out when everyone is at lunch around 12 for another hour or so. Dependent on conditions of course. It's other people I worry about, not my ability.

I know this is an old thread but I have to throw my two cents in because I'm a die-hard skier and I always thought that I'd plan my pregnancy around the ski season. Well, it hasn't turned out that way! :D Quite the opposite in fact. So of course I'm curious if I'll be able to make it up at least a few times (I guess I'll be about 5 months along at the start of the season). Anyway, I've noticed a number of people wrote that skiing on the green runs might be safer. I would have to say from my experience, that as long as you know what you're doing on skis, the green runs are probably the most dangerous. That's where you get all the people who a)don't know how to stop, and; b)all the idiots who want to show off for the beginners.

I live in Switzerland and have skiied every weekend of the winter season. I had a serious collision with another skiier on the slopes two weeks ago. Last week, I discovered that I am 6 weeks pregnant. Hopefully everything is ok. Despite just having bought new skis and boots, I will not be risking the chance of collision again. In some ways, I am glad to have had a reminder that accidents on the mountain are so often out of our control. Good luck with the decision.

I will probably be 11wks when I go snowboarding. I'm experienced but would def take it easy. Don't wanna sit around all week and do nothing. My husband will most likely be very much against it. And I guess the hot tub is out of the question too, right? I'm reading mixed reviews, but leaning towards going. Convincing my husband is a different story.
