Can someone please tell me what surgical procedure you have to undergo in order to re join the stomach muscles. Mine have badly separated after my second pregnancy. is it keyhole surgery or do they have to cut your stomach ( or re-open a caesarean scar) incidentally my son is now 4 mths old I am lighter than before he was born but my stomach looks 5 mths pregnant !!!!

I am so glad I found this! I had my child 2 years ago and I still look pregnant even at my normal weight! My doctor told me it is diastasis recti but told me that there really is nothing that can be done! It is uncomfortable! It feels like it's almost pushing on my ribs! I am going to go get a 2nd opinion!

I am only 13 weeks and my stomach muscles have bigtime split and I have a small umbilical hernia. I'm just scared that My stomach is too weak to handle the rest of the Pregancy. I have to get an abdominal binder and I am going to start wearing support hose every day. Does anyone have any other ideas that might help. I'm very short at 4'11' and my belly only has one way to go- out. Thanks for sharing your ideas on Pilates to get them back in shape. I guess I have to get the Pilates machine back out of the garage for after I give birth.

I am so glad that I found this board. My stomach muscles seperated with my second pregnancy and I am currently pregnant with my third. My doc has said that after this delivery, I will need surgery to repair it. I am terrified, but glad to know that I am not the only one.

I was glad to find this site I am having terrible pain right under my belly b___ton and a little lower. I had a C-section and then a 2 C-section 16 months later it is now 2 1/2 years later and I want to have another baby but the pain is to severe. I am hoping all your suggestions will help figure out what is wrong. I believe my muscles are separated.

Hey, I am 20 weeks pregnant with my third child. The OB has suggested that I have my stomach muscles surgically repaired, as this is my final baby. She said that any sit-ups etc. could actually cause them to tear and do more harm than good.

NOTHING and I mean NOTHING flattens tummy muscles quite like Pilates! At least that's what I have found. I like Windsor Pilates, though if you're pregnant, try a pregnancy pilates tape or dvd. The exercises are modified to be gentler to your tummy and back. Will help you keep flexibility and muscle tone, and make for a better labor and delivery. Good luck!

Mine seperated while I was pregnant with my son. It has taken me 4 years of working out pretty vigorously but I finally got them back together. They were actually far enough apart to fit four fingers in between! My doctor has not been worried though. It is something you shouldn't let go, though. Bad abdominal muscles put you at higher risk for back problems. I did circuit training cla__ses, 3 days a week for an hour each time. Cla__ses are better for motivation and they are usually cheaper than joining a gym. Good luck with the new little one!

I am so frustrated I used to have such a nice midsection since my second birth it all went down hill. I sit down and there lay to rolls of fat or skin who really knows what the heck it may be! I am going to try pilates and see if it will help with this situation of frustration.

I can relate to you all so well. I had my first baby 15 months ago and I too look like I'm still 5 months pregnant. I am pet_te everywhere else and I can't seem to get my stomach back to the way it was. I saw my doctor today to be told I would have to get surgery. I was surprised by the woman who said she got hers back together after 4 years. I was told that they never went back without surgery. It's encouraging, though. Has anyone else been able to get theirs back through exercise?

Good news I have been following this site since May 2005, after I gave birth to my 2nd child. I have severely separated stomach muscles from my lower abdomen to about one inch above my belly b___ton. Its been 8 months since the birth and I am about to have surgery to repair the split. Keyhole surgery through the belly b___ton. I was told not to do sit ups after the birth as it would increase the split. Anyhow I will update you all on how my surgery works!! Fingers crossed.

I am in my 5th pregnancy. I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. I have burning and stinging feelings from my belly b___ton down to my pubic bone. Could this be from abdominal separation? My skin feels like it is on fire. Should I be worried? My belly has popped out very quickly, as I was carrying twins, but lost one 2 weeks ago. I am very concerned.... What can I do? Will it get worse?

Hi, i gave birth to my baby girl 6 months ago, she was 9lb 2. I had severe stomach muscle seperation and difficulty breathing. I was the physio 6 weeks after birth and was given exercises. The lower muscles had knitted together but on seeing my doctor a couple of weeks ago i have been referred to a surgeon for a hole behind my belly b___ton. You have to be very careful what exercises you do and never do sit ups as this can seperate them further. I really do not want surgery unless it is necessary so will have lots of questions. However my friend who is an obs and gynae doctor has said that the hole will only get worse with age so its looking likely. I must admit i still have weight to lose. I find it impossible to move a trolley around the supermarket!.
