This forum was incredibly helpful to me as I was going through this experience. I'd like to share my story, too.

Like so many on this thread, I am deeply indebted to all who have gone before. I'm sharing my story with lessons learned to hopefully help others.
I started bleeding lightly in my 11th week while traveling for work. When I got home the next week, the bleeding was still intermittent and I made an appointment to determine if there were fetal hearttones with my primary care doc. No tones, scheduled an ultrasound the next day. I was measuring 7w4d while in my 12th week, and no fetal heartones. Next on to a consulting OB as my cervix was sealed up tight, and there had been no change in spotting for two weeks.
I sometimes struggle with the medical community, as I'm smart, aware, and do much research for anything regarding mine or my family's health. The doctor, with whom I had no previous relationship, immediately suggested a D&E. I asked if misoprostol was an option, as I prefer to avoid surgery and anesthesia. He said sure. Came back with a prescription, the oral kind, and caution that I might experience diarrhea. Just take lomotil for that, he said. I WISH I would have been told the dosing options, either subligual or v____al. I knew they existed, but I trusted he knew what he was talking about and didn't ask questions. Nor did he prescribe me pain meds. Thankfully my primary care warned me of the pain and was willing to prescribe hydrocodone. (LESSON ONE don't do oral...v____al or subligual is WAY better)(LESSON TWO get the pain meds)
I went back to my office, took the first 400mcg dose at 1P. That dose was to be repeated every four hours till I had expelled the products of conception (another example of terrible medical nomenclature). Nothing happened. Took my 5P dose accidentally at 4P (a little stressed out). At 6P I had the MOST explosive diarrhea I've ever had, three or four times. I thought it was unjust that it was working on the wrong set of smooth muscles. Finally by 8P the lomotil kicked in, and I took one of the hydrocodones, even though the pain was more like intense cramps. My sweet husband snuggled with me on the couch till we went to bed at 10P. The mildly hallucinatory nature of the pain meds (which I would DEMAND from your doctor for anyone taking this route)were weird, and I slept till 2AM, when I took the next dose belatedly, along with more pain meds. At 4:30A I woke up enough to be aware of regular, rhythmic contractions of my uterus, and feeling a lot of stuff flowing out of me. I got up and went to the bathroom. I had pa__sed one half of the placenta and a lot of blood.
I went back to bed, got up for my 6:30A dose, and pa__sed another half of the placenta. I slept for another hour or so, then got up and went about a fairly normal morning at home. At 10A I took the final dose, and nothing more significant happened aside from light bleeding for the next two days.
On Monday (fourth day after first dose) I got up to get ready for work, went to the bathroom and wiped a clot. Upon close examination I saw what I'm 99% certain was the umbilicus, and I'm pretty sure it was the tiny fetus. Helluva way to wake up on a Monday. I'll admit some weird things here. First, my husband and I both looked at it for a minute. Then I put it in the toilet. Then I felt terrible about that after realizing it was likely the fetus, I grabbed it back and found a nice little box to put it in and to bury. Weird, I know. But it seemed so ungracious to flush even the tiniest possiblity of a life my beloved and I had created. I'll bury it in our newly planted orchard. The rest of that day I bled heavily. I think the fetus had been blocking my cervix, and once it left, everything behind it flowed out. Tuesday, the next day, the bleeding diminished greatly.
We were devestated by the loss. The pregnancy was a surprise, but once we chose to move forward we were both very excited about it. I've bawled, wept, and done all the things I've done in other moments of grief in my life. But we're moving on, and likely going to try to conceive again soon since we were so excited about this life-changing event. My heart goes out to you all who go through this. I am SO grateful places like this exist to share information. I only wish they were more readily and easily found.

I just want to tell others what happened after i took the Cytotec.
First i am sorry i posted so many comments but i didnt know that they were posting i thought i had a problem with the net
As for my experience with Cytotec i just want to tell u that it was very very easy with perfect results.I took Monday morning 3 pills orally and after 3 hours i started to see a little blood with not much pain and after 7 hours i took another 2 pills. The pain and blood were very normal as if i was in a period. The third and fourth day i saw much much blood with blood clots.I took for 4 days the pills 2 in morning and 2 afternoon and thats it,I saw blood for 7 days with no pain and did the test on the8th day and everything as i wanted. It was an easy experience thank god although i thouht it will be much harder.
Thankx for all who shared their experiences and hope all good luck.

Hi there, I just recently took Misoprostol (Cytotec) and wasn't planning on posting, but since my experience with it is slightly different than others on this board, I thought I would add mine. I won't go into details, but after 4 ultrasounds, I finally came to terms with the fact that I was going to miscarry. I was given the three options (natural, d&c, tablets) and out of the three, my doc told me he thought I should take the Misoprotal.
I took the 4 tablets v____ally at around 10 pm and after an hour, the cramps started. About four hours later, the cramps were in full force and I found myself on the toilet with the worst diarrhea ever. I was in the bathroom for about an hour, praying for the bleeding to come, but it didn't. At this point, so desperate to try to get what was in me out (to stop the cramping), I reached in and tugged on a piece of membrane but couldn't get it out. I struggled, tugging it as hard as I could, but it seemed attached to my insides and finally gave up.
I was in a lot of pain and was cursing my doctor for not prescribing me any pain meds. 5 hours in and still no bleeding, my hubby gave me 2 tylenols and after an hour and contraction like discomfort, I was finally able to go to sleep. I woke up in the morning at 8 am, went to the toilet, felt a gush of blood and pa__sed a quarter size greyish clot. I couldn't to have light bleeding for the next couple of days.
Now, I am a bit of a gym rat and the first thing I wanted to do after this ordeal, was hit the gym hard. Three days later, I did a back to back aerobics cla__s and this is where my experience is a bit different.
Since my cla__s, I've had on and off abdominal pain and feel like there is something wrong with my insides. My chest hurts when I lift my arms and my insides hurt when I laugh. The pain is not extensive, more like a discomfort but it is still there. I am wondering if the abdominal pain is from my body still trying to push out what's left (5 days later) or if there's something else wrong with me. I have to schedule an ultrasound sometime next week so I guess I will find out at that time what is going on.
In any event, this board has been a great source of comfort to me during this time. I hope you are all doing well. Not sure what other docs recommend but my doc said wait 2 cycles before trying to conceive again.

Hey Ladies-
I am relieved to have found these posts. I had my first ultra sound on 1/31/12 and was told I had a blighted ovum (placenta in place and proper size but empty). I have another ultrasound on Friday just to be sure that there is no baby before I take cytotec. I am so nervous about all of it this site at least let me know what to expect. I am glad I came here first because when my doctor suggested taking the drug he said I would be fine with ibuprophen, that won't happen. I am hoping that there really is a baby and this was a cruel mistake but if not I at least feel better about taking the med.

I would like to thank you all for sharing your stories and say how sorry I am for your losses. I hope that many of you who have been trying for children have been successful since posting your experiences. As a care-provider involved in an Early Pregnancy Clinic I will be asking others there if they feel that a site like this with so many supportive stories would be a good resource for women experiencing miscarriages. These many posts could help to alleviate some of the fear of the unknown and the knowledge that many others have gone through such a loss and are willing to share their experiences for the benefit of others is a very positive thing. Thank you all.

hello... its my first time to post on a blog so bear with me... im regine and im 20y.o/ i have this problem where i don't know what to do, so if u know something pls tell me... it started on december 1st week where i found out that i was pregnant. im not ready for this yet and so is my boyfriend so we planned to buy cyto and let me take it, after i took the first set the bleeding is not that much, so im worried that the pills i took are fake. so i contacted the seller and told her about the experience, she gave me another set of cyt, this time she told me that the brand was the most effective one so after i take the pill i waited for more blood to come out but still there is not that much, i just replaced my pad twice. after a few weeks i tested for pregnancy again and found out that im still pregnant. until now, i haven't figure out what my next move will be because im afraid ill just spend money on expensive pills but not getting my wanted result. now i experience a lot of yellowish and sometimes brownish discharge, and it smells so i always replace pads. what will i do??
