My triple screening test came out neg. so the Dr. said I don't have to have an Amnio but my husband and I are debating over it and we think we should go ahead and have it anyways. In the United States, my cousin who lives there says it is manditory if a Preg. woman is over the age of 35. Is that true?? I am living in Canada. Mabey the healthcare in the USA is alot better than here?

I live in NYC and it was manditory for me to go to a genetic counselling session (partially private and partially group) to discuss the process, the reasons why to have the amnio, what can be determined, and also any possible side effects. It was very detailed and there is no pressure to or not to have the actual procedure. The amnio test is purely your choice to have or not, based on your a__sessment after thoroughly all the positive and negative details have been thoroughly explained to you.
