38 And 6weeks Preg For 1st Time

Went to doctor yesterday for 1st u/s. Walking in I thought I was 8 1/2 wks preg. Dr. told me I was only 6wks. A little disappointed, but he says everything looks good. Has this happened to anyone?

Actually this does seem to happen quite a bit. The ultrasound bases the dating on a 28 day cycle and ovulation occuring on day 14. So if you either have a longer cycle or tend to ovulate late that would account for the difference. As long as everything else looks ok and bloodwork went well, I wouldn't worry. Congrats on your pregnancy!!!

hi yeah i seem to get that all the time i keep bein a week more every time i go in haha. . im 39 with second child .they keep on about my age and want me o have an amio. i dont really want one as my new husband is 27 and it will b is first so im uming in wot to do. its always about age which gets me. well hope al goes well im in for my 3rd scan thursday so im goung to find out wot it is ,i predict a girl bt my husband says a boy haha we will see

I agree with the above, the early ultrasounds are not accurate. The difference in cycle lengths will effect the date as will the steady hand of the sonographer, if they are a millimeter out it could make a difference of days, especially at this early stage. In all honesty it is nothing to worry about at all, I was the same with both my pregnancies, they were showing earlier at the stage you are now and they both caught up by the 12-13 week scan. Congrats and have a healthy 7 more months.
