I'm glad I found this board! I keep reading all of these horrible things that can happen with "Advanced Maternal Age" pregnancies and they're scary! Just about me - I'm 41, thought I had an IUD in place... Just found out I'm PG...

hi -good luck with your pregnancy! i have been reading lots of these boards lately trying to decide (finally) whether or not to try again. i am 37 been pg twice once with a singleton and once with id twins who were born at 23 weeks and we lost one of our babies. at first i was scared of trying again because of what happened with the twins, but now i have "advanced maternal age" to add to my fears! it has been nice seeing the ladies on these boards go on to have healthy happy babies. it gives me some courage! i looked up the stats of down syndrome chances at my age and some sites said 1 in 285 and some said 1 in 385 or so. i got this idea, and raided my kids piggy bank for coins. i took out 49 pennies and 1 dime. put them into a bag shook them up and started drawing, keeping track of whien i drew the dime. i figured 1 in 50 is way higher risk than i actually am. i averaged drawing the dime at about 1 in 26 risk factor. i know that it will be scarier when there is something real at stake, but it actually did give me some peace of mind! good luck to all of you ladies!

Congratulations! I too am 41 and pregnant! Due Sept 12th. I wish you all the best..As long as you are basically healthy you have a great chance of carrying this baby to term. Don't worry relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

I have had 5 losses and am currently pregnant. I am 41 as well. I also have a 2 year old. I have had 2 missed miscarriages, a miscarriage, a chemical pregnancy and an ectopic. (3 of the losses have been in the last year and the last 2 were within 3 months so basically I fell pergnant 3 times in 4 months. I have also had my fsh drawn and it was good. I had a sonohysterogram and my tubes were not blocked. So basically it was like batting averages. Sooner or later a healthy egg had to pop through. If you have the stamina to keep trying and you have had basic tests to rule that you still have eggs and you are in good lhealth overall then you should have a good chance at conceiving. Many many women have babies well into their 40's. Good luck to you all.

I am 42 and I am due April 21st. This is my sixth. I was worried about Down Syndrome, too. I have has my nuchal screening and blood work done and my odds of having and down baby are now 1 in 1500. Not bad odds. My odds of a neural tube defect are 1 in 7000. I opted not to do the amnio because of the risk involved and I would never abort anyway. So now the family is very excited over our new soon to be addition. My youngest is almost 10 and never thought she would ever be a big sister.
