Are there any 40-plus first time TTCers out there? If so I'd like to know your story - I think it would help me as I start out.
I'm TTC cycle 3. I'm due for full workup (FSH dye teste etc) July if no BFP. DH will have test then too.
Anyway I kinow there are plenty of you wiht long stories , short stories and all sorts of journeyrs
I have tone of friends who had 2nd after 40, and some who started trying at 37 and had 1st at 40.
But I have not connected yet with anyone 40-plus who started TTC 1st time at that age...

Hi Clare41 - I'm a 40 plus first timer... in fact, I conceived my first on my 41st birthday! I'm currently very pregnant at 37 weeks and looking forward to meeting my little one. Here's my story, in short hand. DH and I started trying shortly after we married at 39. I got pg on our first try, but had an m/c at 11 weeks. After a few months off to recover, we started ttc again, for well over a year with no results. Very frustrating; temping, opks etc. Finally we decided time was of the essence and went for a complete fertility work-up. Everything came back fine - my FSH was like 6 or 7, his counts were all good, my tubes were clear etc... so, unexplained infertiltiy. my antral follicle count was good enough that the RE said, you guys can just keep tying naturally if you want, or we can get more agressive. After two months of trying again naturally, we said forget this - it's time. So in Oct 2007 we did our first cycle of Gonal with IUI. It worked like a charm, first try. So here we are, with bags packed to go to the hospital any day now and I'm already wondering if I can possibly hope for a second... it was a long, tough road, and we don't have our little one in our arms yet, but its so close and we already have great joy just feeling the little sweetie wriggle around in there every day. can't wait to meet the lo!! so, good luck and stay positive and whatever you do, keep your stress down - i recommend accupunture, great for stress and improved circulation to the ovaries etc.. - and try to focus on having great s_x. seriously, don't let the joy of being with your honey play second fiddle to ttc... good luck and big handfuls of baby dust to you!

Hi girls! hcw...congratulations...what an inspiring story. I had my first at 39..but am currently ttc #2 for 5 months. Your story has completely inspired me...I will definitely try to de-stress more...I would definitely consider acupuncture too. I had an ectopic in OCtober while still bf'ing my lo and also a missed miscarriage at 14 weeks just before conceiveing with my lo. Thanks again for your story and best of luck with your lo. xo

thank you hcw- fo-it took a looong time for anyone to reply and like kristin, i foudn it inspiring. actually i'm leaving hte forums for the most part--participating only sunday nights for checking in because so many friends says my time would be better spent exercising, meditating, doing positive visual stuff, etc..(that's not true for everyone but for me it has so i'm signing off for most part but I'm sooo glad I checked in to see this!)
that is a great story and we are cycle 3 and due for workup in July so I'll know more then. thank you and CONGRATULATIONS!

I am 41 years old and 17 weeks pregnant with my first. We became pregnant almost right away and so far things have been going well. I have been VERY lucky to have no nausea at all and almost no pregnancy symptoms. Everything looked great on my last ultrasound and just waiting amno results now. The waiting is hard, even though I feel pretty confident that all is fine.

Hi Clare, I conceived my 1st when I was 40 and had a beautiful health baby girl at 41. I read all the usual 'scare' stuff but I had a very easy, natural pg and had a home birth too. My dd is now 18 months old and we are trying for a 2nd. Good luck to you :-)

Hi Clare. I'm 42 and 17wks pregnant after 1st attempt! We're still in shock and I don't think it will really sink in until I've given birth! I haven't had any symptoms apart from very sore b___bs and it's been a breeze - even giving up booze hasn't bothered me! I chose to pay for private maternity care because of my age and was advised by my consultant, to consider an amnio. My risk by age was 1:43 for Downs but my Nuchal scan and bloodwork reduced that to 1:852. Although I'm almost phobic about needles, I had an amnio last week and thankfully all results came back clear. We also now know that we're having a daughter so we can start getting excited now and looking forward to meeting her in 5 months! Good luck.

HI, i am 44 yo, i had my first son at 43, he is 9 months old now, he is healthy happy baby, i was so consumed with the old age theories all of my pregnancy, but now i regret that, as long as you are healthy , nothing to worry about. i love being a mom, and if it happenes again, i will be sooooooooo happy. i beleive if you stop stressing about it, it will happen, i use to get mad at ppl saying that to me, How can i stop stressing about it, when i know that my time is tecking?? well, it turned they were right :). i got pregnant the month i did not thing i can even be pregnanat. Good luck .
