I am 46 yrs old, have never been pregnant, but recently married someone younger and we would like to have a baby. I have a lot of fear becoming pregnant at this age, but more realistically 47 or 48 if it happens. As we all do, I want to have a healthy baby and this whole concept of having a baby is new to me at this age. I know my doctor wants to start me on follic acid and get me off of meds I take now. Any other words of encouragement from those that have been thru this. Thanks.

All I can say is that anything is possible and if you want this then there should be no reason why it cant happen. Im sure everything will turn out great. God bless

My mother got PG at 47 and had my little brother at 48. I am 39 and PG with my first and have a little brother who is 16! Also, at the time of conception(and through the pregnancy!) my mother was drinking heavily and taking tranquilizers (she has issues, obviously) and not eating properly at all and my brother is fine, as are all of us who suffered the same "in utero neglect". I'm sure you aren't doing the things she did but I figured I'd tell you about it to just say that if my mother can conceive and carry a baby at that age, anyone can,LOL. I am 37.3 weeks and feel ready to explode, but am so happy to finally be a Mom, we've been trying for over 6 years and I'll be having a boy on Feb 17th (medical c-section) Good luck I'm sure you'll do great!

If it helps, SherryV, I'm 47, and am pregnant for the sixth time. I have four children from a previous marriage (all adults, or nearly so), and my current husband, too, is younger than me. Even so, I must admit this pregnancy came as a surprise. I'm at the end of it (my estimated due date is Feb. 17), but I also have gestational diabetes (something new to this pregnancy), so the doctors may want to intervene earlier for a safe delivery for the baby and me. The folic acid your doctor is starting you on is wise (any woman at any age looking to get pregnant should have healthy amounts of it), and any medications that might interfere with a healthy pregnancy should also be looked into. While the odds are increased for infertility when you're older, or for an increased change of miscarrying (during the first trimester), that's not to say it can't happen. It can, and does happen, and things can turn out just fine! As Honey Bee said, God bless!!!
