Hi Jamela. Congratulations on having your baby boy. No matter what the future holds, you have already been blessed. I am 42 and 15 weeks pregnant with my first child. I was always irregular, then used the contraceptive injection for years followed by the pill. When I came off the pill last September, my periods became regular for the first time ever! My Husband and I had talked about having a baby but neither of us could quite make up our minds. Amazingly, after the first time without precautions, nature took care of that decision! What I'm trying to say is that it sounds as if there is no reason why you still can't conceive at 44. Unless you have other health issues, your doctor may only be advising caution because of the increased risk of abnormalities such as Downs Syndrome. I went from a 1:43 risk based purely on age to 1:852 based on Nuchal Scan and blood tests. I was considering an amnio to be absolutely sure but my husband and I have talked things through and he says that he feels he could raise a disabled child if that's the hand we're dealt. I might schedule the test anyway and see how I feel on the day. My advice to you would be to consider the possible risks with your partner then if you decide to go ahead, just relax and see what happens. Don't make it the 'be all and end all' as you may miss out on the joy of what you already have. Good luck.

mrsT...great response, jamela i think that the advice was great. i always worry when women say they "need" a child, doesnt sound healthy. i am 35 weeks pregnant and decided against the amnio. my nuchal scan measurements were so far below the marker for downs that i decided the risk was too high to do an amnio. also, we didnt do the blood screening as the risk of a false positive was way too high. so far with all of the ultrasounds we have had ( at least 7 due to fluid in his kidneys, which is gone) all his measurements have been perfect and we found no need to worry. good luck ladies!

why not i am 45 and trying to have another one. I will tell you what these doctors should keep there personal opoins to there self. when i was pregnant at 43 my doctor told me to have a abortion i had no buisness having a baby and it would be sick anyways. well i switched doctors, and i have a healthy active little boy 19 months old.

Alley thats horrible! I am 39 and 20 weeks w/ #2 and my doc is great. She did not say one word about the risks. When I asked her about the risks all she told me was that now is the best time to be pregnant over 35 and not to worry. Good luck to all us over 35'ers.
