Gee, Tash, it has been a long time, huh? I am so sorry. Well, I am now on bedrest, too. I am 29+ weeks and have seven weeks to go ... been to the L&D twice to monitor Braxton Hicks (which causes a lot of pain because intestines are in the way and get squeezed in and out of the rip that continues to tear) ... anyway, I chickened out and found out we are having ANOTHER precious baby girl. I am really spoiled in the US department ... get a Level II every single month with that high-risk specialist. Still not able to take anything for the pain, just lots of rest. Been sewing a lot to keep myself from going insane. Ride around in those motorized scooters when I HAVE to go to the store (Hubby takes me) ... found out they have decided to do the repair immediately after they deliver c-section. You better let me know how it's going for you!!!!!!!! I'll keep you in my prayers. (brooke@bitstreet.com)

Hi! Do you mean they are going to repair the hernia at the same time? That is what my Drs are doing and I can't wait! Have you picked out names? My Dr's have given me Tyleon"3 to take the edge off.... It is so painful I can't move sometimes, other times I feel okay.
What is a level II? Being from canada I haven't heard of it :-) I have 6 days left if everything goes as planned. Can't wait :-)

I went through something similar with my 1st. I had an inguinal hernia that was repaired with mesh and spiral tacks. I too started feeling intense pain around 28 weeks or so. It literally felt like I was being ripped to shreds. I never did find anything on when I was going through it and was so surprised to find you guys. I couldn't work for the last few months of my pregnancy because of the pain. The only good thing, which I hope happens for you guys is my baby switched to the other side of my abdomin during my last 4 weeks and the pain actually stopped. I am now trying for the second and really dreading going through this again. Good luck!

Ok, I'm freaking out a bit.. I just saw a surgeon today. I am 21 weeks and he wants to do surgery to repair an umbilical hernia asap. He said it could be dangerous if my bowel becomes stragulated and they need to do surgery after my second trimester.. Has anyone else had surgery while pregnant?

Did you guys throw up a lot during your hernias? I seem to consistantly vomit at 7:00 every night--could this be a possible side effect?

I am 29 weeks pregnant. I just found out I have a hernia, very painful. It aches and has been bothering me alot. My doctor acted like it was no big deal. I asked her if I would be able to deliver normally and she said, "Piece Of Cake".
She gave me no information on it and I didn't even know what kind it was until i went online. Any advise. Should I go to a surgeon and get it looked at???I know I can't get it out until after the baby is born, but I also read how it was dangerous for me and the baby. Does anyone have any advise..Thanks Kim

I had my first child almost 6 years ago I started to have problems with hernia's. I have had 4 repaired hernia's (umbilical, (2) incisional and groin) I followed up with my surgeons since becoming pregnant for the second time and last month I found that I have a 5th hernia-a spegilian hernia and today when I went in for a follow up he found another incisional herina below my belly b___ton. I am 30 weeks pregnant and he plans on repairing them while I am in the hospital.

Wow - I thought my case was complicated - I had no idea it was possible to have so much going on at once! I can see these are old posts, and I hope all your babies are thriving 3 year olds by now! Just incase anyone is still looking at this thread - I have had one baby girl, born by C-section. A year and a half later the scar has ruptured causing an incisional hernia. I've been to see an OB consultant who recommends having my second child before having it fixed (I only want two). Apparently the risks of carrying a child with a hernia are less than the problems that could arise if the repair rips during pregnancy. From what a lot of you have been through I can see that a hernia repair can break during pregnancy, causing further complications. I know that no course of action is risk free, and I trust my OB. Does anyone have an opinion on whether it is better to have the hernia fixed before or after pregnancy, given the choice?

My heart really goes out to all of you going through or that had to go through this. I just recently had a miscarriage at 10.5 weeks, and I had gotten pregnant only 6 weeks after a laparoscopic gall bladder removal. Of course i was devastated to lose my precious baby, but I had started feeling twinges of pain where my incisions were. Does anyone know how much the risk of hernia increases if you've had past abdominal surgery?

I am 37 and have had multiple abdo. surgeries due to hernia's and their complications. I luckly had no problems with my first pregnancy, but have developed an incisional hernia just under my sternum from a coughing episode. I have consulted the hernia inst_tue in miami and found them good and also my OB/GYN. Both recommended having a baby prior to a repair, just because of the probability of it tearing anyway. Their is aparently no risk to the baby, just an "uncomfortable" pregnancy for me. I think it is worth it. My OB also recommended a support bandage for during the pregnancy. I am also doing pilates hoping that strengthening up will help compensate for the weak spots. I would love to hear how you are going with your pregnancies and what you are finding helpful.

I had my first child with no problems. About 2 months after my pregnancy I noticed a bump next to my belly b___ton. When I went to m OBGYN I was told that I had an umbilical hernia. I now plan to get pregnant again and my doctor has told me that I do not need surger before my next pregnancy. Has anyone had a good experience with a pregnancy with an umbilical hernia? What advice can you give about taking care of yourself during the pregnancy? I appreciate any feed back. Thank you!

Well I am pregnant again, and i still have the hernia. It is incisional from multiple abdominal surgeries. I have contacted my general surgeon and since this is likely to be my last baby, i am hoping that they can do the c-section, tie tubes AND fix the hernia all at the same time. It might cause a little extra time in hospital but hopefully it can be done with no problem. anyone have any suggestions?
