Child Support

Does anyone know how the amount of child support is figured out? My baby is due in June and my soon to be ex husband want's nothing to do with it. Is there any way I can find out how much I will get for child support? I live in WA state.

It is based on the income of the person who has to pay, I think. Do not quote me but I am almost positve.

normally the amount payable by the father is 18% of his total income. 27% for 2 children and it goes up from their- that however is in Australia

As far as I know, child support is based on the annual income of the payor. There should be a federal guideline, or at least a state wide one that should tell you what you should expect. Im from Canada, and its regulated country-wide. For example if the payor makes $40,000.00 the amount payable would be $328/month for one child, $537/month for two children, and so on. Im not sure who calculated this table to begin with, but it sure does work for people in Canada. Go see a lawyer and ask for some financial disclosure from your ex so you can calculate his income, or if he wont give you the information, you can base it on an estimated amount. Something the judge will agree to.
