Hi, I'm 19 years old I will be 20 next month. I'm that girl in my family that everyone see to be sussecful. I'm a college student but will I soar or sink? 2 days ago I found out that I am 4 weeks pregnant. My family wants me to get an abortion, but I want to keep it knowing this would be my first child. Abortion has always been something I was against so to get one would eat me alive. I don't want people to speak negatively or look down on me just because I'm pregnant.

Shonnie, sorry to hear of your predicament and happy that you have involved your family already. This may be your first pregnancy but it does not have to be your first child. One third of the women in the USA have an abortion at some time in their life, many after following the principle you espouse and then finding that a second pregnancy really would be intolerable. Keep the child if you are going to feel major guilt long term - there are plenty of people out there who will support your decision. Consider what you will do to your family in terms of financial burden and commitment of time. Their opinion needs to be taken into consideration. With a pregnancy you will be able to finish out this college year but should plan to skip the 2017-18 year.
