I was curious how long after after a va___al birth do you continue bleeding? I gave birth on the 13th, and I am still bleeding. It is like I am having a period, but it doesn't really show signs of stopping. Anyone have this problem, or is it normal?

I bled with my first daughter for 4 weeks. I gave birth on the 10th and I am still bleeding moderately heavy, although sometimes I will go for hours without bleeding at all.

Courtney it can be up to 6 weeks, it varies for different women as you can see by the comments. AFter i had my first daughter I bled for 8 weeks but then there were a few complications with her birth. You will need to go have a 6 week check up with your doc anyway, so if it does not look like an end in sight by then, you will be able to talk to your doc about it. It is like a period, as the lining of the uterous now needs to come away, that is what your period is. The lining is to look after bub while you are incubating, so now it is not needed. Your period each month your body prepares for a baby and when this is not used it comes away, hence why after a birthing it goes for a little while. These are all really good things to look up on the net, makes explaining how your body works to your daughters alot easier, and as women I think we ought to know how our bodies work and why they work a certain way, that way we can more accurately tell the doctor what is up and why we think something is wrong.

I bled off and on for about 6 weeks, but mine was a c-section, there is a lot in there that needs to come out. During that time, I had days where I didn't bleed and thought it was over, but then bam it would come back... quite annoying. But its normal, so relax and enjoy your new baby! (Im due in july)

Thanks ladies. The bleeding has stopped as of the beginning of this week. Now it is just lite brown, and very light flowing. The smell there for a while was horrible!! Nothing like I ever expected...thought there was a dead animal down there! My perinium still aches when I sit on hard surfaces or walk around for a long time, but other than that I feel amazing!! Good luck tish212 with your pregnancy!!!
