has anyone used castor oil??? if you have how much did you take?? did it make labor any worse cause someone told me it did. the reason i ask is i am 36 weeks and my baby is aprox. 6 lbs and 9 oz and the dr says is i go to term the baby might be to big for me to have natural.....so i want to know how to get the process moving right along. im not trying anything till the end of next week...

I used it because I was 37 and a half weeks and my hubby had to work the next day and it takes him 30 minutes to get to work and we where in a bad snow storm. I didn't want to take a chance on going into labor here alone with my kids. I don't have any family near so thats why I took it. It worked for me. I took it at 2 pm and went into labor at around 8 I think. This was the hardest labor for me but I had a procedure done on my cerviax in 2006 and I had a lot of scare tissure so my cervix didn't want to open very good. I would wait until your farther along though. The doctors may say he's gonna be big but they could be wrong. My doctor told me at my 37 week appointment that the baby was a good sized baby and he turned out to be very small. 5 pounds 4 ounces and only17 inches long. I had an ultrasound at 36 weeks and it said he was good sized. Good luck.

austynsmommy- how much did you take and did it cause you to have any diarreah? How long between taking it and labor began?

I only took half of what they tell you on the bottle because I was kinda scared to take it. I did get diareah but I had diareaha also before I had my other kids so that was not to bad. It took about 6 hours and I was in labor.

I would recommend starting at 1tblspn and don't take more than 2tblspn. If your body is ready castor oil will give you strong contractions that hopefully send you into labor. This happened to me, but after several hours my contractions stopped. This was at 38wks I think. I had minimal diahhrea (one bout). Too many people take too much and cause themselves a horrible time! If you're body is not ready you're just giving yourself the runs. :) Less in more in this case, just imo.

maybe you are getting caster oil mixed up wtih the brand name of a motor oil...castrol.
Caster Oil has been used in households for hundreds of years for just about everything from a punishment for a naughty child to taking it for medicinal purposes (hence the talk of how bad the diarreah was).....lol.
I remember getting a mouthful for being cheeky, then i got the duster on the backside from my granny for spitting it out......I NEVER did that again!!!!
