Returning Part Time AfterMaternity Leave

I was wondering if anyone is returning back to your full time job after your maternity leave as part time. I am heading back as part time. My boss asked then if I would need to take the full 6 weeks for the leave. I said yes because I want to try and have our daughter on a schedule before I return. If you return part time are you not eligible for the full 6 weeks leave? I am confused!!!

Where do you live? I live in CA and here you can return part time and get part time disability to make up for the hours you are only working part time. Look into FMLA and that will explain everything to you, also talk to your DR or someone at your medical center.

Talk to Human Resources and find out exactly what you are eligible for, sometimes bosses don't even know for sure. Every place is different. Also find out what paperwork you need to have signed before your baby comes. At the place i use to work i wasn't even planning on comming back and i found out i was ent_tled to 4 weeks of full time pay and 4 weeks of 60% pay, if i hadn't asked i would have never known, it wasn't very clear in the employee benefits handout. Good luck to you.

Thanks ladies, but here's the thing. I started working for my employer in May of this year. It is a tiny company, they employ only 4 people. My boss is the owner, so there isn't really any HR. She has never been in a 'maternity leave' situation, and I haven't either, so I'm not sure how it quite works. They are holding my unused vacation and sick time to use while on leave, but that is all. They don't have to do that, so it means a lot that they are doing that at all. I just wasn't sure if since I will be returning part time if I was still able to receive (by law) the full 6 weeks. I went online and found stuff regarding full time you get 12 weeks guaranteed, but that's it. I also live in KS, not sure if I should do short term disability either....I would like to get this figured out too, I will be 27 weeks on Saturday, so I have time, I am just the type of person that wants everything taken care of in advance...just in case!!!

It does not matter if you are full time or part-time. You are ent_tled to six weeks of family leave by law. Whether you get any pay for that time though is up to your employer. Most will let you use unused vacation and/ or sick leave for at least part of it, but are not required to do so. The law only requires you get (unpaid) leave.

I live in Florida. My job offers up to 12 months of unpaid family leave. Unfortunately, my family can't afford to go 12 months without my salary. So I get 6 weeks of paid leave- using up all of my sick and vacation time. I asked my co-workers to donate leave time to me instead of buying me baby gifts. So I am hoping to have a full 8 weeks at home with the baby.
