Its possible for the soreness at any time during b___stfeeding. She may want to evaluate the way she's feeding the baby and make sure the baby is still latching on correctly, this honestly makes all the difference. Best of luck to your sister!

Use lanolin and see a latch consultant, good luck.

I went to a b___stfeeding cla__s today and the consultant said b___stfeeding should never be painful. Have her call the La Leche League. They are a worldwide organization and should be able to help.

i nursed my first baby for 13 months. The first 4 weeks were not easy on my b___sts and I couldn't go far with out lanolin which I would apply after EVERY feeding...It does hurt a bit in the beginning...BE sure to use b___st pads after putting on Lanolin (till it dries) It does stain clothes and bras.

Hi, I've been B-Feeding for 4 weeks now and it's been quite painful from the beginning. I think it's funny how the lactation specialists that teach those cla__ses say that it should "never" be painful, the cla__s I took said that too. But I've seen THREE lactation specialist since giving birth and all says she's latching on perfectly and everything is working correctly and that "sometimes it just hurts". Wow, that's a drastic change from "it should NEVER hurt". So, although at the beginning of the feeding and periodically throughout the feeding I want to beat my head with a skillet, I just do the best to get through it. Lanolin helps a bit, but most;ly what I've found that helps is that I pump all day one day and feed after each pumping and then the next day I feed directly at the b___st, this gives my b___st a break. Good luck to you in figuring this out. BTW...how long are you going to b___stfeed? this is my first and I'm wondering how long I should do this?

I haven't taken any cla__ses yet. I didn't even realize they offered them??? Isn't that something that a nurse shows you in the hospital after the baby is born? I'm not super worried about it cause my sister is actually going to school right now to be a lactation specialist and said she'd help me if I had any issues but do all places offer a cla__s on it?

Breastfeeding really shouldn't be "painful" per say, but sometimes it may be uncomfortable. This is my third baby that I BF and sometimes her latch seems harder than others and I reattatch her to be more comfortable. Sometimes that doesn't help either, and like Toni says, you just must grin and bear it. I pump once a day so I can have a bottle for my husband to feed her occasionally and to build up a supple to freeze when we're away. Otherwise I feed her all day and she still eats about every 2 1/2 hours. Exhausting. Toni, you should BF as long as you feel like. I have always felt like I wasn't "not pregnant" anymore until I quit...but this time I'm going to do it hopefully for at least 6 months...I like my bigger b___bies!
