Wow! Talk about a bunch of no-life having, gossipy, "nothing-better-to-do-with-my-time", grouchy a__s housewives! I was browsing around and came across this message board. I can't believe there are so many perfect women in here who are above ever having asked a question that maybe didn't make much sense to someone else. You guys are way too intelligent for me! I'm gone!

Hello Ladies! (With the emphasis on LADIES!) I too was wondering this same thing. I am 32 weeks and I actually asked my NP this exact question yesterday at my appt. She said it was possible - of course - and walked me through how to do it properly. She also mentioned the threat of infection, but said the same thing that many others have pointed out about washing your hands and/or wearing gloves. I actually think it would be great if all the hateful comments could be removed from this thread and then have it bounced back up to the top because it's so helpful. I am outspoken and don't mind asking questions, but there are lots of women who are afraid to ask their Dr. Thank you to all of you who posted with helpful information! I believe that's what this forum is for - helping people! Good luck to you all and may you all have wonderful safe deliveries!

I don't think anyone should be judging anyone...the only being pa__sing judgment is one greater than any of us. Words such as STUPID and MORONIC are words you should be teaching your kids not to use... but how can you teach them if you're using them? Everyone is ent_tled to their own opinion and views but to answer a question immaturely is not the way.

I am utterly shocked at how rude some people are on here. I will never be coming to this forum again. If you do not think highly of someone's post than simply dont reply, but calling people names is so childish and immature. Everyone does things differenty if you dont agree with something that is your right, but dont put anyone down. The fact is a woman CAN check herself for dilation, but it does pose some risks. The correct way to respond to this post is to simply say i dont know, i never heard of that...or yes it can be done, this is how, and these are the risks a__sociated. There are a lot of women here who need to grow up.

You can check yourself. Your cervix during pregnancy will tend to come closer to the v____al opening later in pregnany. You can reach the cervix. I do not recommend checking yourself for dilation due to possible risk of infection and starting contractions by stimulating hormones.

I said this before that is why I do not go to them. Doctors only know what a test tells them and if a test tells them wrong they go with that. That is why they have malpractice suits because they do not listen to the patient. You can check your own cervix wash your hands and wear some gloves. It is better to find the information yourself because you will have a clue to what is going on. Doctors will tell you I don't know in a heartbeat. People please learn more about your body do not depend solely on a doctor.

LMAO -- This girl already had her baby prolly 4 months ago and you're still arguing. That's funny. And yes - you CAN check yourself, just need clean fingers and no nails. If you can't reach your cervix then you're not very close. Cervix will come down as you get closer to delivery.

Yes, you can reach your cervix, it is possible to check yourself for dialation, and to all of the women on this page who are being so completely childish by attacking this girls question, what is wrong with keeping up with your own status, if your hands are clean it is a lot more sanitary than letting a man stick his p___s inside of you..........think about it. Tee, my doctor explained it this way, each finger is 2 centimeters, so 2 fingers would be four centimeters,
etc.http://experts.about.com/q/1007/3760983.htm
You should all read this, you are a bunch of know-it-alls. It's not a great idea, but it can be done.

Actually I'm surprised so many ppl are being so negative and rude on here, I'm a medical a__sistant in an OB/GYN office and preggo with baby number 5, with this as well as the last 2 pregnancies my husband was able to "check" me AFTER being carefully explained how and what he was looking for by my Doctor, just my 2 cents worth.........

How to Check Your Own Cervix- "it's not rocket science"
"I think it's a good and empowering thing for a woman to check her own cervix for dilation. This is not rocket science, and you hardly need a medical degree or years of training to do it. Your v____a is a lot like your nose- other people may do harm if they put fingers or instruments up there but you have a greater sensitivity and will not do yourself any harm.
"The best way to do it when hugely pregnant is to sit on the toilet with one foot on the floor and one up on the seat of the toilet. Put two fingers in and go back towards your bum. The cervix in a pregnant woman feels like your lips puckered up into a kiss. On a non-pregnant woman it feels like the end of your nose. When it is dilating, one finger slips into the middle of the cervix easily (just like you could slide your finger into your mouth easily if you are puckered up for a kiss). As the dilation progresses the inside of that hole becomes more like a taught elastic band and by 5 cms dilated (5 fingerwidths) it is a perfect rubbery circle like one of those Mason jar rings that you use for canning, and about that thick.
"What's in the centre of that opening space is the membranes (bag of waters) that are covering the baby's head and feel like a latex balloon filled with water. If you push on them a bit you'll feel the baby's head like a hard ball (as in baseball). If the waters have released you'll feel the babe's head directly.
"It is time for women to take back ownership of their bodies."

umm... just so some of you ladies know, the ones who dont think you should put your fingers up there to check yourself.... i had a baby 4 months ago, and i recently had an IUD put in. tell me why the directions tell you to put your fingers up your v____a and feel for your CERVIX and find the strings. those of you that say you cant reach it, its bull, and those of you that say its dirty, that is also bull. and whever said this question is naive, you apparently are naive. because you would know more if you werent. you really should learn more about your own anatomy. ;)

I checked my own cervix on Tuesday and I could feel the baby's head and measured roughly 2 fingers. When I went for my ob appointment later that day, he told me that I was a fingertip. How can that be?

i dont see anything wrong with checking yourself. as a matter a fact if i wouldnt have checked myself a week ago i would have had a big surprise when i had my baby 4 weeks early because i was waiting around for my doctor who told me till i was 38 week he didnt need to check me.

To answer my babyboy , I think the best way to lose the weight after pregnancy is to b___stfeed. You can actually eat twice as many calories as a non b___stfeeding woman and not gain weight- hence if you eat a normal amount you will lose the excess weight. I don't know how you feel about b___stfeeding- but it also helps your uterus to contract back down to normal quicker and b___st milk won't stain your baby's clothing like formula will. Anyway, I lost all my pregnancy my weight within 4 weeks due to b___stfeeding. Good luck.
