I am only 35 weeks, so I am holding off on this for another week or two, but just wondering if any of you have had any experience with this stuff? And when did you start using it and how much did you take? I also read that some midwifes have women insert it va___ally does this make it work better or is orally ok too??

Bump...anyone know??

wait...castor oil and primrose are the same thing?

kimberly - July 25

I don't think castor oil and primrose are the same.

I didn't think so either...I think Nerdy was talking about castor oil, thats where I hear the diahrrea comes from. Primrose is applied internally, right?

Thats kind of what I am wondering, I have read that you can take the capsules, but that you can also insert them.

LOL sorry fr the confusion, don't mind me.

just going to bump this up...because I am really curious about evening primrose oil too

found something: Evening primrose oil is an excellent source of prostaglandins, which we already determined readies your cervix for labor. It can be taken orally as soon as 34 weeks, and can be applied directly to the cervix at full term (36 weeks). The general recommendation is two 500mg capsules per day until week 38, at which time you increase to 3-4 per day. The entire capsule can be inserted v____ally (inserted just before bed, it will dissolve before the first time you wake to use the bathroom), or you can use the oil on your fingers for your perineal ma__sage, then also rub on your cervix (a__suming you can reach it). Applying directly to the cervix is optimal, but the beneficial ingredients are absorbed through the external skin or the stomach also

I use it, I take two 500mg a day, I am 36wks 3days and I have been using it since 34 weeks. I also drink two cups of raspberry leaf tea per day. I believe both these things really helped in my previous pregnancies.

I bought some capsules yesterday and they are 1000 mg. Should I only take 1 of them? Also I guess it is safe to take them now, I am 35 weeks.

Okay....so this is a pill right? I have heard of it but never paid attention....So say I wanted to go to the store for it. It would be "evening primrose oil capsols"?.....really curious on this, cause my cervix seems to have a hard time dilateing.....Another thing, it doesnt acturally attempt to start labor like castor oil right? It just helps soften and dialate the cervix?

kimberly - July 25

Thats what I have read that it softens and thins the cervix, but isn't suppose to cause contractions. I would love fro someone who knows more to post, b/c I am really wnating to try this, but I am unsure about when I can start it and how much to take.

I dont want to try anything I am unsure about so i am with you on this....But to me it sounds like a totally naturall herbal suppliment.....i am 35 weeks on friday so if the info that pregnant jackie posted is accurate i better get going

I found a whole site on inductions...it says castor oil is NOT safe and neither are a lot of solutions. But it says evening primrose is completely..the site is maternitycorner.com go there, scroll down to where it says natural induction methods and click more on induction methods that is underlined. It was very informative. from what I've read it works just like s____n...definitely NOT similar to castor oil...it doesn't help dialate but it softens your cervix and capsules or oil can be inserted v____ally after 36 weeks or ingested at 34...it is a slow process....my question is WHERE DO I BUY THIS MAGICAL OIL?

kimberly - July 25

I found it at Wal-Mart in the vitamins and herb section. Thanks Jackie!
