well, i was supposed to be a november mommy, but my baby took a little bit longer so i became a december mommy. here's my story anyway =)
I had an appointment on the first to see if I had made any progress and if not, my doc would schedule me to be induced later in the week. Well, I get to my appointment and get to the ultrasound and my fluid levels the last time were 6.2 (cm or whatever the measurement is) and they had to stay above 5 to not need to be induced. This time they were 0.4 so I call up my hubby and tell him I may be admitted. I go and see my doc and she does her check and up until the first I had been at 0cm but this time I was at 2cm. Yay! She sits down and asks us how soon we can be into labor and delivery and gives us until 5pm to get our stuff and eat all I want before they don't let me. So we show up at 5 and they put the cervidil in tell me it will be 12 hours before they can check to see if any progress had been made. So around 4am, I wake up to horrible back spasms. Not labor, just spasms. I've had them since I was a kid. The nurse gets me this awesome pain killer called stadol and I go right to sleep. Next thing I know i'm waking up to my doctor checking me and then telling me they were starting the pitocin and that I had dilated to 4cm. Awesome! I went back to sleep lol. Still very drugged at that point.
About an hour later I am awakened by the most horrible pain ever from contractions that were 2 minutes apart. I gave up quickly on the idea of no pain meds and got my epidural. My doc was fine with it because every hour I was dilating 2cm so I was going very smoothly. The guy puts the epi in and I was in heaven and went back to sleep. I was awakened once again by the nurse saying I was 9cm dilated but there was a lip so I had to do some practice pushes to move the baby past the lip. Fine by me, I couldn't feel anything. So she grabs my right foot and my husband grabs my left and pretty much fold me in half and tell me to push 4 times per contraction. After about an hour, we were past the lip and I just had to work on getting to a +2 station so we could get the doctor and really get the party started. After 30 minutes, I had moved the baby where she needed to be but on one of the last pushes, I felt and heard a pop and asked what it was. I was pretty sure I had farted but couldn't care lol. She runs off and gets the doctor and my doc takes one look at how far I am and jumps into her scrubs right there lol. She sits down and tells me “alright we're having this baby right now!” and has me push and push. Well for some reason, the baby's head couldn't make it out, and I hear her say “ok teresa, i'm going to give you a little episiotomy to help the baby come out” which I didn't want, but I trust my doctor. I didn't feel it anyway. Then she tells me “we have to use the foreceps because her heartbeat is going up” so I mumble something about “ok as long as the baby's safe” and one last push and the baby's head and entire body come popping out. Next thing I know this cute little slimy thing was laid on my tummy and she wasn't crying, so I was rubbing her head and her leg and my husband is looking down at me in shock as i'm smiling weakly from all the drugs. He hadn't noticed the doctor trying to hand him scissors to cut the cord lol. He finally notices and cuts the cord and they take the baby off to the warmer and start cleaning her. My doc tells me “well you have a little tearing so i'm going to st_tch you up now” once again cool because I felt nothing still.
So the stats of the world's most gorgeous baby girl are:
Kiara Ariana Bella Finch
born December 2, 2008 at 1:25pm Central Time
10lb 7.5oz
22 inches
As for her name my husband's grandfather pa__sed recently and they were very very close and the grandfather's mother's middle name was Bella, so that's where we got that.
And the extent of my injuries were 4th degree tearing, episiotomy, hemorrhoids, and a cracked tailbone. So i'm actually still in the hospital right now, lol, but doing better. 2 Vicadin every 3 hours is niiice =P sorry I hadn't been on sooner, but i'm sure you guys understand =D

For me, my story started on the 7th of December at around 6pm. Started having contractions then they got really painful fast. Got to the hospital at around 9pm then had my little girl on Dec 8th at 12:04am. She weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces and I probably spent 10 mins in delivery. I didn't have time for the epidural and I had a small tare that needed st_tches. But then I got bad hives from the pain meds they gave me at the hospital. Still recovering from that and was taking meds that effected my brestfeeding so I've been pumping and dumping while giving my baby formula but starting tomorrow she gets to have my milk again since I am off of the meds.

Congratulation Bilmes! Sounds like a quick & easy labour & everything went really smoothly for you (I'm hoping this one comes that quick). Sorry to hear you had a reaction to the pain meds (thank god you didn't have them in labour hey?) & that you weren't able to bf right away, but I'm sure with a little practice she'll have no problems learning.

Ethan Thomas was born Wednesday, Dec 31 at 8:51am, weighing 7lbs 8oz and 20 inches long.
I’d had uncomfortable but painless BH contractions all month. On Monday they became more menstrual-crampish, accompanied by back ache, but they subsided. I lost my mucous plug on Tuesday morning, and by evening the contractions were back, irregularly spaced but stronger and more uncomfortable over time. Once I realized that this was it, I was determined to stay at home as long as possible to retain control over my laboring process – to increase my chances of having a minimal intervention labor (no epidural / c-sec / induction). My SO had just been hit with the flu and was knocked out cold, so I was at it alone. In some ways, I think it was easier that way. I used different positions for pain relief, including one I call “gnawing on towel-covered towel-rack”.
I finally woke him at 3AM to help me time a few contractions and call the OB (“OB#2” from my other post). She echoed the sentiment to stay home as long as possible for minimal intervention. Within an hour, I felt & saw my water break, and my SO insisted we leave for the hospital immediately. We arrived at 5AM. The triage nurse was not receptive to my birth plan whatsoever, not bothering to hide her negative ‘you’re naïve, the pain is going to get worse and you’re going to beg for the epidural’ att_tude. But I persisted, fussing and complaining to anyone who would listen about being confined to the bed on my back, and it paid off eventually. Around 6 a resident examined me, told us my water was still intact and I was 6cm dilated, and had me moved to labor & delivery. The nurses there got permission from OB#3 for me to walk 30 min per hour, off the fetal heart monitor, “until [my] water broke”. My SO was given a face mask to wear. I think his adrenaline kicked in and made him alert despite his illness.
At 7:30AM I was still 6cm. OB#3 offered me an epidural and something to speed me along, estimating that I’d be delivering in the afternoon otherwise. I refused repeatedly. She vaguely reminded me of drug pushers, the way she kept asking ‘are you sure you don’t want it? It’s right here if you do…” and “[the inducing drug] will make it go along faster…” (aka your pain will be over quicker!!!) Ironically, I asked for Tylenol but it never came.
Moving around helped things progress and helped w/the pain. In retrospect I only had one 30 min session out of bed. The moment I mentioned pushing, they tossed me back in bed – b/c at 8:30 I was 9cm. They rushed to set up for delivery, and suddenly I was 10cm, bent halfway like Teddy, and told to push. I was uncooperative with both the position and pushing w/out urge b/c it increases your risk of tearing. But I was too weak to fight. Then the nurse said the baby’s heart rate was lowered – which I’m still somewhat skeptical about, but anyway then I pushed like crazy. Five pushes and out he came: a wet little boy plopped on my chest after just four hours in the hospital. I spent the next hour being st_tched up (3d degree tear). I was so dazed, but I heard the OB asking if anyone had noticed my water breaking (lol).
Overall, I am super lucky. Ethan is a voracious eater, and seems healthy and happy. At five days’ old, he was trying to flip himself over – he can get halfway, onto his side, but his arm is in the way and he hasn’t figured out what to do with it. He has not gotten sick, despite being surrounded by sick people – first his dad, then me, then grandma. I had “flu symptoms”, possibly from the flu shot I got the day after I delivered – I was worried it was the real thing. Dad’s and grandma’s were real. I also developed a severe headache and edema on Friday, and spent most of Sunday getting checked for pre-eclampsia and blood clots. Thankfully the tests came back negative for major complications. I’m now seeing a chiro b/c the other docs’ prescription meds don’t relieve the pain and also interfere w/b___b-feeding. I’m struggling to get Ethan back on the b___b after 5 days off it.
Two surprises for me: First, I am more emotional now than I was during my entire pregnancy. I get weepy much more easily. Second, right after delivering, I was ravenous. It lasted a few days.
Pack food, ladies, or get someone to bring you extra food! And trust your bodies and your instincts!!!

Congrats to all the new mommies and good luck to all the mommies to be! I was a December Mommy that delivered on 10/23 at 33 weeks. Two days prior, my blood pressure skyrocketed and my OB put me on bedrest. When I returned for my ultrasound on 10/23 my pressure was worse. I was sent by ambulance to Yale where I was given the Magnsium IV while the docs decided if the steroid injection would help the baby's lungs develop. Evidently they usually only administer it before 32 weeks and my pressure continued to rise. I had Lucas William at 6:10 pm on 10/23, he was born 4 lbs 6 oz, 16 1/2 inches via c-section. He was rushed up to the NICU b/c he needed help breathing for the first couple of days. He also was not able to eat on his own or maintain his body temp. He stayed in the NICU until 11/8. He came home (even though we knew he wasn't ready, which is another story) and was rushed to the Emergency room at another hospital within 36 hours. His temp dropped to 91 degrees b/c he was not able to maintain his body temp. Thankfully he recovered and come home 1 week and a day later. I just want all the mommies to know that they should absolutely always trust their mommy instinct and NEVER allow anyone to tell them they are wrong. We almost lost our precious baby b/c the doctors felt he was ready and we knew he wasn't. I hope everyones birth experiences are better than mine. Good luck ladies! Colleen
