Hi everyone. I also posted this in the csection forum because I really want some advice!!! I am currently 35 weeks 6 days. I have Type 1 diabetes and ave an amnio planned for 36 weeks and 3 days. My doc told me if the lungs are developed I'll be able to have the baby that same day. However I am getting a little discouraged about it being this early that maybe the baby wont be ready. Here's the thing, my diabetes and blood pressure has been under really good control, so no one is worried about the baby for that aspect. However, since being 34 weeks I have gained about 7-9 lbs! Much of it has been water weight. My circulation in my hands and arms has been awful and i wake up many times in pain because of it. Also earlier this week i have gotten very bad pains "down there". Much like someone hit me hard and walking, sitting, and trying to get into a sitting position is awful. The baby is breech, so a csection is necessary. I also am obviously in tons of pain, so I really want this baby out sooner than later. What are the chances of it being ready so early???

i have a friend who gave birth 2 weeks ago and had the same situation as urs. she was 36 weeks when she was rushed to the hospital cz of a high blood pressure, drs kept her for 2 nights to keep an eye on her bp and told her that they will need to get her baby out in the coming 2 days so she was given a steroid shot so the baby's lungs would develop faster or something like that. her bp became stable and lower after she was hospitalized and took the meds but her sugar level rised from the steroid shot.. so drs decided that since they controlled her bp, she can still have her baby grow inside for a longer period of time, but she had to take insulin injections everyday to control her sugar levels.. a week after, unfortunatel the poor girl still had diabetes and insulin really did nothing to her so she was induced and after 10 hrs of labor she never dilated enough and her baby was getting stressed so she had to have a c-sec..im sorry im not trying to scare u, but im trying to tell u that despite all the awful thins she had to go through, she gave birth at 37 weeks to a beautiful healthy baby that weighed 3.5 kgs and was 55 cms long.. she was bigger than my full term baby girl.. so its really not so early, just relax and ask ur doctors about ur baby's lung development. my friend didnt have to stay in the hospital for more than 2 nights after giving birth n went back with her baby girl home. good luck and wish u the best of luck :)

When I had my dd, she was born at 36 weeks due to severe preeclampsia. She was fine and did not have to stay in the hospital any longer than I did with a c-section. Her lungs were fine. My ds was born at 33 weeks for the same reason and he needed a bit of help and stayed in the NICU for a few weeks. I was told that the steroid shots aren't given later than 32 weeks as they have not been shown to have any effect after that time. It really is different for every baby. My OB told me that if you have problems throughout your pregnancy (as I did with my first) that babyies tend to develop more quickly b/c they have to. Both of my lo's were just over 4 lbs. Good luck, I'm sure your baby will be fine, sometimes they're better off outside than in.

If your doctor said the baby needs to come out, than the baby needs to come out. Sometimes it's for the mommy and not the baby. It could be getting way too hard for you and they are concerned for you. There are so many ways to make sure the baby is ready before the due date, and sometimes they won't even be in the NICU. My daughter was born on her due date and still spent a few days in the NICU. So it's really hard to say what Babies will go through. My Doc. wants to do another ultra sound, because the baby may not be gaining weight anymore. And induce. He really doesn't want to do a c-section. I am currently 36 weeks and 3 days. So I can see the finish line. I'm just not ready yet. We still need to set up his room.

I think you have to trust your doctor on this one. He/she is not going to do anything that would be more dangerous than the current situation. Just pray for peace and relax and let things roll. You'll be right!
