Kat,
I was supposed to start my maternity leave yesterday, but instead started it last Tuesday, A[ril 28th, after a false alarm. My dad convinced me it was a sign to take a break. I am an English teacher, and the in last few weeks I was totally exhausted and miserable at work, not to mention suffering from being on my feet all day.
Shea- are you sayinf the raspberry lead tea might have stopped your contractions at one point?

Hey ladies! So I had an interesting doctor appt. yesterday. He said I was 3cm dilated and mostly effaced. Then I told him that the baby was moving but I noticed a little less in the last week. Well that started a crazy chain of events. He decided to hook me up to the NST monitor and after 20 minutes, he came in and said, I like to see at least two variables in acceleration in 20 minutes and I'm not seeing that, so I want you to go directly to L&D and they'll do a complete biophysical profile and another NST, yadda yadda. I didn't realize a simple comment would cause all this mayhem, but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. So 6 hours later, I got the sono and the NST and the little one pa__sed with flying colors. I only wish the ultrasound tech would have let me watch the screen like my peri's office does. Ugh! The doctor at the hospital said the baby was probably in a sleep cycle at my doctor's office. Still, it was kind of nerve wracking, even though I had a good feeling all was just fine. I had my husband on alert, in case I needed a c-section last night. But it looks like I'm still pregnant for now. So crazy!! I guess this one is going to be the child that gives me gray hairs.

Oh what an ordeal Jessica! Glad everything is okay in the long run. Too bad that you didn't get to meet your little one yet.
We are all soooo hopeful and ready! Now if these babies would just listen and come out!!!

Well, I had a good, but less than I'd hoped for doctor's appointment. I was SO sure I'd made more progress! I am dilated to 1cm (maybe...he could've been just humoring me! LOL) and am 55% effaced.
The amniotic fluid was down from last week, but still in the normal range. He wants to see me again on Monday for a repeat bpp...so we'll check the fluid again. Then my regular visit next Thursday....then if all goes well there, inducing me on Monday the 18th.
Of course if there are any problems with fluid/baby/anything, then they'll induce earlier.
Any new babies yet? I'm so eager for someone (including me) to deliver!
Have a super day! Andrea

Hope everyone is well. I had my weekly appointmnet yesterday. No progress made. Not dilated at all. Wonderful!!!!!!! That was very sad. So... back in a week!
I had contractions all last night... should you wait to go to the hospital until your water breaks or just pay attention to your contractions? I never know... and some contractions are very faint and hard to feel.
Where is everyone???

MIM, The contractions will be so strong that you won't be able to walk, talk, or breathe through them. I was told 5-7 minutes of painful contractions if it's your first. And 10 minutes if it's your second.
Good Luck

MIM, I don't think waiting for your water to break is a good idea: mine didn't break with my first until my husband could already see her head. Not exactly the time when you want to be starting your trip to the hospital!
As for contractions, unpredictable and confusing as they can be, they're your best sign of when to go to the hospital. Like Shea says, they'll be pretty intense when the time comes. (I could always at least breathe through mine, though. Except maybe for a few of the worst ones during transition.) They'll get stronger and stronger, and not go away. There have been a few times where I was getting them five minutes apart for an hour or more. But then I'd drink a lot of water, use the restroom, get up, sit down, or whatever, and they'd taper off. The real thing is more insistent. Each mother is different, though, so if you're not sure, just call your doctor or Labor and Delivery. They're supposed to be able to tell from the sound of your voice if your contractions are the real deal or not.
My violin cla__ses ended yesterday! Woo-Hoo! Now if I can just get a few more things done, I'll feel ready. I could go into labor now, and be fine, though. The really important stuff is all done.
I'm looking forward to my appointment on Monday. I hope, I hope, I hope I'll find out whether I'm making any progress! It's so frustrating when you look forward to it all week, and then they don't even check. :-(
Happy Mother's Day, all! My cousin sent me this cute (fake) news video of me being mother of the year. I had to grin.

Ooh! It let me do the address! Just take out all the spaces, and replace the "dot"s and "equals" with . and =
I hope it works for you!

There is also a nifty little tool online at contractionmaster dot com. It keeps track of the timing. My water never broke with my firstborn either. I think only like 10% of women begin their labor this way? Seems very low to me.
Happy Mother's Day, pretty mommas!!!

Aww thanks for all the advice. I hope this happens soon for all of us!

Happy Mother's Day everyone!
It was so cute; I received three cards, one from my husband, one from my mom, and one from my dad... so sweet. Also, an unemotive boss who I used to work for when I was in graduate school called me to wish me a good Mother's day... that totally made my day, especially considering I thought he neither cared about me nor still had my number... it's been two years since I worked for him.
At this point, I am seriously considering castor oil. I will be 39 weeks Weds. and as of last Weds. was 75% effaced and 2cms. dilated. Hmmmmm... my apprehensions are that I am afraid it my cause complications, and that I feel like it is kind of cheating my way into childbirth. Then again, everything I read suggested that the body won't go into labor unless it is ready.
How is everyone else dealing?

Good early morning, ladies! Anybody else not sleeping? I don't know if it's just being uncomfortable or just way too excited. Probably a little bit of both. I can't believe it's almost a week away for me!!
Jac, I feel your frustration. Hang in there! I have never done the CO, but it just seems pretty nasty to me. Plus somebody on here said that what it does to your bowels, it might do to your baby's bowels in utero, so I don't know. Worth the risk if you're not quite to term yet??? i bet you go anyday now. Sorry I wasn't of help, but just wanted you to know being pregnant is getting very difficult and harder to deal with by the day.
I'm having stronger cntxns and lots of discharge. I'm at 3cm, but this baby is being the Taurus baby that it is...STUBBORN. I was secretly hoping my water would break or something on Mother's Day. But it's all good at this point.
Hubby spoiled me a little more yesterday. I got sweet cards and a little bouquet from him and DD. Plus non-alchoholic mimosas in the morning. They were great, but it just reminded me how much I'd like a sip of champagne!!!
Ok, off to read a bit and see if that brings on zzzzz. How many babies this week, I wonder????

Jac, correction. You are to term. Just meant not yet 40 weeks. Being your first baby, I know sometimes these babies like to hang on to Mom as long as possible. My firstborn would have chilled out in there till 50 weeks, I bet! Have you discussed induction with your OB? Some won't let you go past 40wks :)
