Relaxation Advice For The Holidays

With the holidays here and families coming to visit-- anyone have any good relaxation techniques? I usually escape into a glass of wine or two, but that's out of the question this year. And to top it off, my husbands twins will be with us for a week. They tend to drive me nuts throughout the year, but I think it will be even worse now that I am 8 months preggo. They are 5 years old, unruly, loud, messy, disrespectful, destructive brats. I am afraid them being here will stress me out to the point of stressing the baby out, too. Any advice at all???

When my kids stress me out, I take a timeout. Tell your DH that you need a break and take one. Go out with a girlfriend for lunch, nap, take a long bath, go play on the computer, vent with a friend, take a drive for an ice cream, listen to a walkman. Whatever relaxes you. As far as the 5 year olds, keep them busy. My 5 year old loves youtube videos. (Think people falling) I just hate when the house gets messy. Have some movies on hand. Do a few simple planned activities with them. Make them go outside and play. Whats that old saying- idle minds make idle hands. Most kids only act out when they are bored or want attention. And my 5 year old is not too old for a nap.

DH does keep them very active when they are with us- however... there mom has put it in their head to destroy my house! So even if we are all outside playing, the one girl will come in the house and break something or spill juice all over the place or write all over the walls with a marker. Or she kicks my dog- cuz her mommy hates my dog (a 12 pound lap dog). She always does. Their mommy gives them treats and gifts when they do things like that to me. No amount of talking to the ex or the kids on my DH's part has been able to resolve this. The ex hates me.
