This may be a silly question but has anyone had a water birth and had a bowel movement while in the tub? During pushing I had bowel movements with my first and I was not in the tub. My second time around and I want to have a water birth...but now I was thinking, what if I do a number 2 in the water?? Gross! Anyone with some advice would be great...

I had a water birth with my 2nd & yes I did poo in the water, but the midwife scooped it out as soon as it happened. I too was worried about the germs but she a__sured me that it (the poo) doesn't stay in the water long enough to cause any problems. I never got any infections of any kind from having a water birth & would love to do it again if given the choice. If you are having a water birth at home one of your support people (or midwife/doula) will have to scoop it out for you, the scoop looks just like a fine plastic food strainer. Hope this helped.

Okay, I know accidentally pooping while pushing is actually quit common but honestly ladies, is it embarra__sing or do you just not care? I'm so nervous about that...

It embarress me. I think that I did it when I had Andrew. It's not something you can really do anything about.

I did with my first but I was not embarra__sed. The nurses are used to it...it's very common. Thank you for your words E58467!!
