When When When

I am 39 +3 days pregnant with number 2. I am 3 cm and 75% effaced. I lost my bloody show 3 days ago and have lost my mucus plug...i contract every nite for hours 4 min apart, then 2 min...then when I lay down to sleep they stop.I have been contracting for 4 days! Though I have some that wake me up in the middle of the nite. Everyone is pressuring me to call the doc but I don't want to go in and waste their time. Should I call to go in? When will I go? My first baby my water broke, making it easy to know what to do...

I was like that for about 2 weeks before I had my son. But I was only 1cm and 50% effaced. If your worried you could go up to the hospital to get checked. Thats what their there for. I hope you have your baby soon. Good luck.

I know EXACTLY how you feel!! I am 39wks 2days with #3, have lost my mucus plug (no bloody show though) & every night for the last couple of weeks wake up to painful contractions that are minutes apart. This goes on & off for hours until the early hours of the morning when I am finally able to get some sleep before the kids wake up (usually around 6am). I get them during the day too but nothing like at night. Oh & I'm still getting PLENTY of braxton hicks. I am SOOOO tired & all the midwife could say was it's not considered actual labour until the contractions are regular get closer together & get more intense/painful, & that what I'm experiencing is pre-labour or practice contractions. My reaction to this was 'what the hell does my body need to be practising for?? I have done this twice before without all this c___p before hand'. I too am praying bubs will come soon because I am SO over this, & I hope that all this 'practice labour' means a quick & easy labour. It makes me feel a little better to know I'm not the only one going through this & I can honestly say that I know why some women reckon they had been in labour for days or a week before having bubs, cause that is how I'm starting to feel.

E586467, glad i'm not the only one too!! When is your due date?

E586467 - January 3

Due date is 8th January, how about you? I went over with the other 2 & am praying that doesn't happen this time. How old is your other one? My DD is 3.5 & DS is almost 19mths so busy, busy, busy lol. At least they still have a midday nap which is great as I manage to have a lie down myself & if I'm lucky fall asleep for about 1/2 an hour.

mary b - January 3

My due date is Jan 8th too! My first due date was Jan 14th as per my LMP. But my ultra sound I had around 18 weeks said more like Jan 8th. Not a big difference I know but i'm hoping! I was just weaning my first when i got pregnant again, so my LMP might be off. My DD is 21 months. And thank GOD for that mid day nap right!!! My DD sleeps between 1.5-2 hours a day...and so do I! I'm hoping she keep that up. How did you get them to sleep at the same time? I was 6 days late with my first. But I did not have all this prelabor before! With her real contractions just began and a few hours later my water broke making it easy to know what to do next. How about you? How were the labor before? I hear the second and preceding labors are a bitter easier, and quicker?

How about that we have the same due date & I was still b___stfeeding DS too when I fell pregnant this time (he was about 10mths), & I continued to do so until he was just over 13mths (he self weaned). As for their midday sleep, it was a little tricky to begin with, but I just made sure they had the same routine & it sorted itself out. They eat at the same time & I put them down at the same & it has surprisingly been easier since they started sharing a room (I needed his room for the new baby). DD is mostly such a good girl & even if she doesn't sleep she will lie in bed & rest until either her brother wakes up or I let her know she can get up. If DS is still asleep she is usually really quite & will just read a book or play with her doll until he wakes. She learnt to respect others sleeping when DS came home, which was wonderful. As for the labour with DD I had her 7days late. I felt unwell that day (a Wednesday) & that afternoon lost my mucus plug & had the bloody show. That night contractions started mildly so I went to bed, & at about 2ish woke up to regular painful contractions. I had her that day (a Thursday exactly a week late) at 2.22pm, so about 12.5hrs labour. With DS I had him 5days late. I didn't really have any signs that labour would begin, I just woke up in the middle of the night with regular contractions that were mild but soon became more painful, then 8hrs later he was born at 11.03am (on a Wednesday). His labour was easier but pushing him out was a bit harder as he was 9lb 3oz & DD was only 7lb 9oz. God I really hope that all this pre-labour c___p this time will equal a fast easy labour :)

OH i know!! I am really getting sick of the prelabor..it is non-stop! Yesterday I contracted ALL DAY 12pm to 9pm! THEY even got worse as the day went on, then THEY stop! They are about 3 min apart for hours! I can't imagine going through this for another week or 2...mentally and physically. BTW, my daughter self weaned at 13 months too! How are you feeling lately? What have your contractions been like?

E586467 - January 4

I hear you on not being able to do this much longer. I had a completely natural labour with DS & as much as I want the same for this one, am tempted to ask for an epidural NOW so I can enjoy what's left of this pregnancy. Well hubby & I even tried bringing on bubs yesterday by having s_x when the kids went down for their midday sleep (he works from home), but all that did was make the contractions come on strong & painful every 3-4mins for the next 7hrs ARGH!!! They never got closer together or more painful just constant. Well needless to say I won't be trying that again lol. On the bright side I had a long hot shower last night after the kids went to bed & afterwards rubbed some lavender cream on my belly & that seemed to help as I managed to get a couple of hours sleep WITHOUT the contractions yeah! I will definitely be doing it again tonight & hope for the same outcome. What country do you live in? I live in Australia & am wondering if being so heavily pregnant in the middle of summer is part of the reason for all the contractions? I try to stay hydrated but at night don't drink much leading up to bedtime otherwise I wake up too much to pee. Hubby suggested it to me last night that maybe I'm dehydrated during the night which is why I seem to get the painful contractions mostly at night. I wonder if he's right? Anyway how are you feeling? Oh & how funny that you BF til the same age.

Well we have so many things in common! My husband and I tried the s_x thing at nap time today too! It's Sunday here in the USA so he was home. I'm contracting again tonite. We really haven't had much s_x cause he is so mentally not into it, me looking like this and all..Though he would never say it in a mean way..he's so sweet about it....I understand but it makes me feel so big and ugly...he means well though. He is stressed at work too. Anyway, as i said i'm in the United States. We live in New Jersey not to far from New York City. Hydration could totally be the reason you are contracting at nite. How hot is it there? It's freezing here! Average temp is about 37 degrees F. Then tonite i leaked some fluid, or I thought it was and called the Midwife and she asked if I had has s_x today. I told her yes, laughing at the same time cause it's the first time since October 6th! And she said it might be from that. The fluid stopped so I guess it was just discharge? So weird. I'm getting so b___hy too. And I can't help it. I guess cause at night it's the same story, Contractions and nothing. Did you loose your bloody show? Where in Australia are you? We have friends that live there, can't remember where right now. Well they are more my husband's friends and he can't remember. HA! Where are you located?

Yeah it was Sunday yesterday when we had s_x too! Only because we run a business from home (not really me anymore) he works pretty much everyday. He is planning on taking 2wks off when bubs is born, so he worked through Christmas & new years (except the public holidays). We do have a couple of staff so at least the business won't do to badly with him having time off. He is a bit of a work-aholic so I'm praying he really will take the time off. I live in Queensland about 20mins from Brisbane City. It has been getting pretty hot here, most days it's been at least 31 degrees C, which according to google calculator is 87.8F. Today the temp's not been too bad being 27C (80.6F) but it's really humid so I feel like c___p anyway. We do have air-con but only in the bedrooms, so as you can imagine I try to find a way to do most of the housework in the bedroom. No I haven't had a bloody show yet, only lost the mucus plug, even hubby says it feels different when we have s_x but couldn't tell me what he meant (real helpful I know lol). Sorry your hubby isn't into your pregnant body. Mine is opposite. He says that because 'down there' gets so swollen when I'm pregnant, that I look like I'm constintly h__y & of course the thought of me being h__y makes him h__y too (typical man lol). I hate to burst his bubble but just cause 'down there' looks good to go, DOESN'T mean that I am. Did you labour long with DD? Did you go natural or have pain relief? I had gas & pethidine with DD which put her to sleep & as a result slowed my labour, so they had to break my waters which made the pain horrific as they refused to give me more pain meds (her HB was very slow). That's why I went completely natural with DS & ended up having a wonderful water birth. Painful yes, but easier as I trusted my body more & it made enough endorphins to cope. I'm hoping it will be same this time, but heaps quicker :)

mary b - January 5

You are hilarious! Humidity sucks. I remember in October I was so done with hot weather and it was about 75 F then. How do you do it? I would be dying! As for my first birth, I had a couple false alarms, literally just 2. This baby it is every nite. Going on nite 6. Very frustrating!! Anyway, 6 days after her due date, i had a contraction that woke me up at 8am. At like 2pm I had a more intense contraction that make my water break. I got to hospital and about and hour later they gave me stadol, a IV narcotic which was horrible and just made me sleepy. I made it to 8 cm and started begging for an epidural which at that point they couldn't really do cause I was to far a long. THEY did however give me a shot in my spine that helped for about an hour but but I was not numb all the way...Then it wore off. I pushed for about a 1/2 hour and had her at 9:31pm. She was 8 lbs 1 oz. .I don't know what that is in kilos... Anyway this birth i'm doing a technique called Hypnobirthing, it's wonderful! Totally natural and i WILL use a kind of self hypnosis and visualization to get through. Google it, it's pretty interesting...it basically means lose the fear and be free of pain...sounds like you kinda did that with your second...go with your body. How was last nite? How are you feeling today?

E586467 - January 5

Yeah the heat sucks some times but I've always preferred it too the cold. I only seem to have trouble coping when I'm pregnant, I think because I'm constantly carrying around a hot water bottle in my belly lol. I hate winter & don't know how you guy's cope with all that snow! It doesn't snow in this part of Australia during the winter or I think I would have turned into an ice cube by now. The stadol you mentioned sounds like the pethidine given to me (mine wasn't an IV just a shot in the leg). I remember feeling out of it when they gave it to me, but it put DD to sleep & caused more problems then it was worth. Funny you should mention about the hypnobirthing because my cousin did it not so long ago & even though I didn't get to do the cla__ses or buy the book/cd in time, I did google it & have been practising the relaxation breathing that is used (probably how I've managed to stay sane with all this pre-labour c___p). No I didn't do it with DS but I did do ALOT of reading about natural birth & felt very confident going into it, & because I was more relaxed it was much easier to cope. I only really felt like I couldn't do it anymore during tranistion, & feeling like that gave me strength to go on as I knew he would be born very soon. I pushed for about 30mins with him (he was 9lb 3oz & had quite a big head). With DD I pushed for 45mins, which I'm told is good for a first baby, she was 7lb 9oz. It was our wedding anniversary yesterday (the 5th) & hubby of course was hoping to make love (lets be real, more like get a bit lol), but because he was SO busy during the day to stop for a lunchtime quicky, I REFUSED to even consider it last night so I wasn't up ALL night contracting again. So as for last night, I had my hot shower, rubbed lavender cream on my belly again, had a drink of water & went to bed. I slept wonderfully for about 3hrs until DD came in saying she wet the bed :( Hubby got up & cleaned her up while I changed her bed. After that the contractions started on & off for the rest of the night & were gone by this morning. Oh well at least I got a couple of good hours sleep :) How are you feeling today? I'm sure one of us will get on here soon only to find out the other one had her baby, I will be SOOO jealous if you go first lol. Wouldn't it be funny if we had them on the same day!! Oh do you know what you are having? We didn't find out this time.

E586467 - January 5

Oh I meant 5th of Jan for our anniversary. I bit confusing having different time zones. Here at he moment it is the 6th Jan, 9.45am

mary b - January 5

Wow this time zone difference really works for us chatting! Another thing in common, we didn't find out the s_x of this baby either! We did with DD. At this rate we are going to go on the same day! I'm contracting now, i worked out tonite, trying to keep this weight down though no matter how much I have worked out this whole pregnancy I still gained a lot. I didn't help that I am pregnant again over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday. Contractions are getting more intense but i'm so afraid to get my hopes up. Congrats on your anniversary!!! How many years? We have been married 2 years this past October. How is the whole potty training going? DD went on the potty 3 times today. But I have to ask her, ''do you have to go?" Take off her diaper and bring her to the bathroom. Otherwise once in a while she say "Pee Pee" and i'll take her in to the bathroom. I'm trying to get her out of diapers asap but I don't want to rush her. God I hope these contractions last and get stronger. I made a spicy dinner tonite hoping it will kick start things. Tell me about how you are feeling? Are you going to nurse again? How long did you nurse your DD? Same as DS? I for some reason can't wait to nurse again, Those close moments alone you know? Good luck today!!! I'm going to bed...lol...

E586467 - January 6

Thanks for the congrats. We've been married 4yrs but we have been together over 10yrs (10yrs as of 20th October last year, go figure lol). DD will be 4 in march (I was 7mths preg when we got married, we didn't see the need before but my hormones got the better of me. hehe). She is completely toilet trained except lately has been wetting the bed. Not sure what is causing it, but have a feeling it might be stress related as she has been getting picked on at pre-school. She can hardly wait for the baby to come & we plan on having her there at the birth. As for DS he is 19mths today (the 6th) & even though he sits on the potty (nappy on) when I go, I have not started toilet training him yet. Don't be too surprised if your DD goes a little backwards when bubs arrives, our DD did that when DS was born which is why I haven't started with him yet. Oh & we found out the s_x with both DD & DS, though we already new what DS would be as we timed his conception to be a boy. Regards the nursing, I will definitely be nursing again & I too love doing it. I was only able to BF DD until she was 5mths as she started b___st refusal at 4mths (I think you guys call it nursing strike) & when I told my doctor of the trouble I was having all he could say was 'well at least you BF this long, it won't hurt to bottle feed' (yeah helpful I know) and by 5mths I gave up the idea of being able to. When she was about 6mths I bought a play pen from a woman who happened to be a BF consultant & she said that with patience & determination I could have turned things around, & was surprised that my doctor had not advised me to see a lactation consultant. Well you can imagine what a failure I felt but it made me even more determined to BF DS when he came along. I got really sick with mast_tis when he was 11days, but worked through it (there was NO way I was giving in this time lol). I was sad when DS self weaned at 13mths but at the same time I was a little glad as I was SO tired & run-down from the bad morning sickness. Does your DD have a doll? When I BF'd DS my DD would pretend to BF her doll just like mummy, it was SOOO cute & I encouraged it as I noticed that dolls always seem to come with bottles. No wonder so many women don't BF, we grow up pretending to feed our 'baby' from a bottle so of course it doesn't seem unnatural to do so with a real baby. Anyway sorry for the long post, it's keeping my mind off these bloody contractions. I woke up from my midday nap having really bad contractions, & am doing my best to take my mind off them, especially if like every other day they go on for hours & lead nowhere. Hey here's hoping that as we are both having them that it is a sign we'll both have our babies today :) Let me know how you go & I hope you manage to get some sleep.

E586467 - January 6

mary b did you have the baby? I am SOOOO excited & jealous right now if you did :) I hope everything went smoothly for you & you were able to have a natural birth as planned. Anyway goodluck & I can hardly wait to hear the details. As for me the contractions once again went no where so I am still IMPATIENTLY waiting. I see the midwife tomorrow so hopefully she has some encouraging news.
