Experience With Japanese Issho Mochi Tradition

My question is whether anyone on here has experience with the issho mochi tradition, and if so, how many grams makes 1 sho of mochi? My son just turned one, and we thought it'd be cool to celebrate his first birthday with this tradition, per a website article I found, since my son's part Japanese. Trouble is, (last minute of course) I didn't realize it was just one (or two) GIANT mochi. Our local grocery store only carries the small individually wrapped ones. So we pulled out our calculators to convert sho to kg to figure out how much mochi we needed to buy.
Except, when I picked up the bag at home to get ready to wrap, it just seemed excessively heavy for my 20-lb baby. I thought maybe our calculations were wrong, but now, I can't seem to find a clear answer to the actual conversion anywhere on google. One google hit says 1 sho is 3.3kg of mochi, another 2.4, and another 1.2. I found a site to convert sho to kg, depending on the item's density, but I don't know mochi's density. I know it's supposed to be a challenge for my son to carry the mochi, but I don't want to hurt my kid either! The mochi packaging we purchased mentions ounces and grams. Thanks for any feedback!

Nevermind all - I did more digging and google came through after all - albeit, I had to run a search by copying/pasting some japanese characters to get a google-translated japanese wikipedia page. I managed to figure out I could make this very easily and quickly at home, and had no business buying all those individually wrapped ones. Live and learn, ha!
Also, if anyone else is curious - I think the kg varies depending on who makes it and what fillings they use. One vendor (translated into English per google!) seems to emphasize making it lighter / less dense to make sure it's safe for the kids.
