580??!! Does that sound like twins to you? Any other IVF ladies on here, or just the Clomids trying for multiples?

I have an ultrasound in a week, I'm just trying to mentally prepare myself and compare my numbers with others'....

Teddyfinch - May 9

i've read that high hcg numbers don't necessarily mean twins.

mama-beans - May 12

Right..... but 580 at 10dp5dt is 2.5 times the average. Not just "high". I was just wondering what the BETA's were for others with multiples.

Teddyfinch - May 13

they can range from low numbers to high numbers. the numbers don't mean anything......

mama-beans - May 13

you've never done IVF before, have you teddy.

Teddyfinch - May 13

no but i do know a bit about hcg levels. a high level really doesn't mean it is definitely multiples. it can be, but not always. this is copy pasted from a site. " A high level of hCG can also mean a number of things and should be rechecked within 48-72 hours to evaluate changes in the level. A high hCG level can indicate: * Miscalculation of pregnancy dating * Molar pregnancy * Multiple pregnancy "

when is your next ultrasound and how far along will you be?

mama-beans - May 13

My ultrasound is on the 21st. I will be 28 dpo, (although this is an IVF of 2 A+ blasts so actually I'll be 23dp5dt) or six weeks pregnant exactly. We're pretty sure it's two, as my numbers are twice the average. I was hoping to find other IVF moms here to compare and prepare.

Teddyfinch - May 13

oh ok. well just don't get your hopes up for two, because for every lady i've read about that had high hcg's (ivf is not a factor in the levels) they had singletons.

mama-beans - May 13

Hopes up? are you for real? and IVF is a factor, in the EDUCATION about levels.

Teddyfinch - May 14

well, i do see your inability to be reasonable considering i'm the only one answering you. so sorry i don't know everything there is to know about IVF, but last time i checked, only pregnancy was a factor in hcg levels, other than trigger shots. it's called being nice. saying to not get your hopes up for twins just in case it isn't. that isn't being mean at all. are you for real? b___hing at the only person who cares enough to post? if you are so highly educated on the subject of IVF, go google it. because i posted from a site that i googled that you obviously can't be bothered doing on your own and you brushed it off. why don't you ask your doctor if you're so worried about it? it's been 5 days now? no one here is a doctor and anything we say won't matter until you check with them anyway. fyi high hcg levels can also indicate down's syndrome, so i think you should ask your doctor. you obviously won't listen to anyone who hasn't had an ivf.

As my question was clearly directed at someone with first hand information ( and not google, how rediculous) then I'm kind of wondering why you are responding at all? Your a__sumptions about a subject you quite clearly have no clue about could be damaging to a lesser informed person. And trying to be nice? What a joke. Trying to sound superior? more accurate. I'm not here for an official diagnosis. That's what my RE is for. I'm here for anecdotal and real-life experiences. Of which you have none in this case. Being a__sumptive and b___hy wont further you in real life, FYI. An dig/joke? about Downs syndrome? are you 5? And in the real world, educated women know the real risks of twins. Want them? I'd MUCH rather have a healthy singleton pregnancy. I would never intentionally risk one child to have two. That said, I'm pretty sure I've got two in here, and was looking to compare my numbers with others'. Not with google, which those of us actually dealing with true infertility and IVF know is bunk.

Hi MAMA-BEANS and welcome back! So, you are having another one (or two)! Congrats. I know it is probably scary with everything you have been through but since you did IVF, it does sound like the chances are pretty good for 2 (or more...gulp!) TEDDY- Mama-beans has been a member for a long time on here and sort of stopped coming around because of all the unprescribed clomid posts on here and the fights. I don't think she is really hoping for twins. After what she has been through she is probably a little worried about it. She knows that HCG levels are questionable but probably would like someone who has been through IVF with high HCG levels to share their outcome with her. She isn't like many of these women who try for twins or are really crazy about wanting them.

TEDDY- I didn't read all your posts and now that I have, I have to say I am really shocked of your response to Mama-beans implying that she could be having a molar pregnancy or down syndrome baby. That is a hideous thing to say. You usually are a lot more level headed and nicer person than that. You being 12 weeks along yourself, I'm sure would not want someone to respond to your questions with statements of pa__sive-aggressivly saying there is something wrong with your baby.

Hello samehere!

Teddyfinch - May 14

mama-beans: ah yes because google is full of useless information and never directs anyone towards a helpful site...obvioulsy you're google illiterate. i responded because no one else did and people who know anything about pregnancy know that a high hcg level does NOT necessarily mean twins, which i pa__sed on to you. you can ask anyone else. it does not guarantee you multiples. duh. next time i suppose i'll let you post be ignored and buried like it should have been, obviously. i wasn't trying to sound superior you ninny. i was trying to keep you from getting your hopes up that you had twins so you wouldn't be upset if you didn't. if you think that's mean, then you're too hormonal to be in public right now. i think you have anger issues, because high hcg's can also be a sign of down's. informing someone isn't making a dig at someone so how about you stop being the b___h in all of this. i'm not out to attack you. i gave you the little amount of information on your question that i had and you immediately came after me for it. go ask your doctor. it has been a week since you asked your question and your doctor will have the best answers for you. but i suppose you know everything so you only asked for no reason. no one said anything about the risk of twins. no one cares. ivf has a higher rate of twins than natural i suppose, but i never had to go that far, so i don't know. don't get up me for that. your little buddy didn't come along until a week later, so your post would probably have been buried by the annoying clomid posts that pop up, so at least someone kept it up there. oh and if you're looking for the perfect forum, why not go to the problems getting pregnant forums where women who've actually had ivf are and stop bothering the women here that are mostly pregnant with twins naturally.
